Well my week of planned keto snacks and meals and motivation kinda took a crap this morning... 24hrs into keto again and my fridge decided to die over night or sometime yesterday without us noticing. We fully stocked the fridge with meats, cheeses, low carb veggies, creams, butters, pickles, miracle noodles, tofu, nuts and nut butters... now everything has spoiled... 😳☹️😱😩😭

I was hopeful of some items and gave a sniff or sip test... I cannot get the sour milk taste out of my mouth 🤢

I really wish I could catch a break and things could go smoothly for me... making keto WOE more obtainable for me. Pretty bummed out right now. And this was definitely not something we could afford to happen especially right after paying rent and fully stocking the fridge... 😩

Do you have renter insurance? Or if it was the landlord's fridge, do they have insurance to cover the appliances? Such a pain!

Yikes! I've watched so much produce (mostly fruit, that I don't buy) go bad sitting on the table that I try to limit my grocery shopping to whatever I can use within two to three days. I would go nuts if I lost $400 worth of food!

I'm so sorry to hear that. Such a huge amount of food to go off. I remember the same happening to me years ago - it's heartbreaking really. Big hugs.

No renters insurance. And now renters insurance Amy rocketed after the Thomas fire. It’s our fridge. Not very old at all either... like four years old. Same thing happened during the fire. The Power going in and out for those weeks took a toll on our poor fridge and we lost all of our food then too... we thought we had repaired the issue... We are a family of four. Eat all organic and natural and minimally processed, so it is expensive. A dozen eggs is $8.75... a 1/2 gallon of milk is $4.99... 😩 It really is heart breaking... but we will be fine. Just going to have to take more time to be on a strict keto diet like I was hoping for... ☹️

Wow, and I was bummed because our chest freezer took a crap and I lost 4 lbs of broccoli and some yellow bells that I had froze. The fridge in the kitchen is a side by side and they don't hold as much. $9 for eggs??? Yikes!!!

Eggs have definitely gone up over the last 12 months. I was getting a dozen for $1.25 at Dollar General last summer. They have slowly crept up, I think the most I saw was $2.50/dozen, that's insane for non-organic factory eggs. Glad we got chickens, by September we should have around 2 dozen a day, fresh, organic, free-range yard eggs. If I can get $8/dozen I'll be a happy camper.

I learned recently pickles do not need refrigerated. and your veggies should be good too. When we have fridges die we run to the store for lots of ice and fill our ice chests.

@srmansfield it was too late for most of the foods. By the morning our house was already hot and the inside of the fridge was very warm. Some items still felt chilled to the touch. Like pickles, hot sauces, veggies and some fruits. But we went shopping in bulk... what we usually do is buy a ton of meats, open them, cook some, cook enough for left overs for a few lunches and then freeeze the rest in meal portions... but it all went bad 😩😩😩😭😭😭 But I did get ice and save an ice chest full of some things like butter, pickles, broccoli, bell peppers, onions, celery, cucumbers, condiments and one glass jug of milk... but I am going to open it and give it a good sniff and sip check today before the kids try to use it!!

@phil I do buy from verified “happy farms”, one day we will get chickens!! That would be amazing! I know people that sell their eggs for $6 a dozen locally... but when I am out of eggs and at the store I always forget to call them and get some. I think a great business would be a porch delivery of organic Home raised eggs, set a price per 1/2 dozen and delivery once a week... so many busy health conscious people would dig that where I live!!

Oh my! I try to have "shelf-stable" back-up items around... have had a few appliances "crap out" on me, too. Chin up, toes forward, dear!

@from371 I try to keep some shelf stable things but I eat packaged free, waste free and usually cook everything from scratch which makes most things need a fridge 😭 but great news. The fridge is getting chilled. I think it’s going to work again!!!

When I was a kid, we had a bread man and a milk man. They came by and filled your list with the bread, milk, cheese, eggs that you needed. Always fresh and local. Maybe not practical in today’s world, but it sure was nice.
