I work in a call center...so I spend 90% of my work day chained to my desk by a phone cord. I could use the wireless head set and wander around the floor aimlessly. <-- sounds like a good idea in theory...until I get a call, then the entire site gets to see me scurry back to my desk like a mad woman, running over all those that get in my way.
(I don't run-so scurry is the correct term for what I do)
So about a month or so ago I got one of those little under the desk bike thingies (such a technical term). This little back has completely changed the way I function at work!
Prior to purchasing this thing I would walk up and down the aisles throwing a weighted ball around-really not safe, and problematic (my sup would have to hunt me down to actually get me to work).
I totally need more suggestions for more equipment that I can use at my desk...you know without having to lay down a yoga mat in my cubicle...

Balance board is a good option as well!

i am fortunate to work for an employer who recently allowed employees to get a 3 k stand up desk. before that many of us had a "veri desk". they cost about 80 bucks. if you have a dedicated cubbie ask your employer if you could purchase out if pocket. standing vs sitting.....multiple benefits.

its like a lift tray that goes on top of your desktop. you can put it up or back down easily for when you want/need to do sit down work.

I so want one of those lift trays. I get cramps in my legs from sitting so long, so I try to take more rest room breaks so I get a little walk in. The rest room is not too close to our office. (It's on the other side of the building.) Helps a little. We get 1/2 hour break and 1 hour lunch, so I do some type of exercise during break and walking after I eat.

Isometric exercises, hand weights , stretch bands, watch a video like SIT AND BE FIT from Tv. Exercises meant for people with limited mobility but also work for people who are confined to work cubicles.

Get a simply fit or similar board. don't twist, just wobble on it. keeps me awake during boring calls that go forever and I can type on the computer if I raise my keyboard with some fancy equipment like a shoebox.

Most employers now day have some type of employee council or employee board. some advocate for nursing lactating rooms or day care for their children. Employers want to retain employees and make them healthy and happy. It only benefits their bottom line to retain employees. If you have that, and I do, go that route. If not....be the leader of the initiative in your workplace. Best of luck!

@draglist, I have one and it keeps my feet and ankles from swelling in the summer, but it doesn’t ever elevate my heart rate like real movement. It’s movement, not exercising, so depends on why you want it. That said, if you have knee issues, it’s a great way to build strength in a low key way. It’s better than the one they gave my friend for therapy.

@draglist I love it! When I'm not able to move around it is perfect for keeping me active (and awake). I would suggest one with a good tension control. It helps to burn calories despite limited movement that the desk allows.
