Maybr you could change the type of sugar- substituting fruit and honey for cane sugar, while slowly reducing the amount :)

switch to natural sugars to start maybe? fruit is always good for a sugar kick. honey, molasses, and maple syrup (the real stuff) instead of the more refined granulated sugars (you dont need much cuz they're super sweet) ...it's not perfect but it's natural at least.

1. Get rid of sugars at home.
2. Get rid of sodas with sugar.
3. Eat whole, unprocessed foods with no sugar added.
4. Learn to recognize the 59+ names for sugar.
5. Dr Atkins recommended L-glutamine supplement, 500 mg before each meal. I didn't try it, because my addiction was to starchy stuff.
6. Try different sugar substitutes until you find what you like. Many like stevia.

Yeah, I would also add: plan on doing this sugar withdrawal in stages with ultimately ZERO fructose from bad fruit (melons etc); scrap all sweetners too (except xylitol) - about 50% of population trigger sweet taste throughout the ENTIRE length of their gut (can also be confirmed via SNP-DNA Test); buy and consume food fresh; eat more regularly (no insulin peaks); plan for what you will do when confronted with sugar in social setting; lastly.. keep coming here to share your progress!

Thanks for all of the great suggestions. These weekend we went out of town and at horribly. When I got home yesterday..I went crazy...craved and binged sugary stuff. I am so tired of being in this prison of sugar, carbs and just the cycle of sweet, salty..

My advice y stop putting sugar into your daily beverages and replace some tentations with yoghurt based on almond milk or coconut milk.

Have you considered going full keto? It would give you a program to follow and the hormonal changes going into ketosis may help you.

Love your self more than the sugar, and operate by this philosophy, "Nothing taste as good as thin feels." When I was struggling to lose weight I would even go to bed early to avoid eating junk. Don't keep it in the house is a biggie for me.

Write a list of things to do when you get triggered to eat sugar. Replace the bad habit. Eat something healthy. Plan your meals for the day. Take deep breaths. Take a shower. Brush your teeth. Paint your toes. Get on Fat Secret :) You can do it. Just keep at it!

When I get those sugar cravings, I make my ACV drink. It really helps me. It's 1 oz of ACV w/ the Mother, about 5 grams of lime juice and about 10 drops of food grade essential oil with about 1 quart of ice cold water. Helps me every time!!

Look at what you ate hours before you have your cravings and try to pin it down and replace it. Your body is wanting an insulin spike and something wore off to create that craving.

I like the comment about mistaking sugar cravings for thirst.
If you're massively into sugar, wean yourself gradually. Cut out one sweet everyday, then try cutting out another. (Cutting out sweet drinks - sodas, juices, sweet teas - is a common first step). Try replacing some sweet snacks with fruit. And, remember - if the choice is between sugar or fat, choose fat! (OK, enough from me).

But other than that, with my other addictions (coffee, nicotine), I just cut down little by little. Baby steps. Everything I've done I've done with baby steps because all at once seems impossible.

All good suggestions. Sometimes a baby-bell cheese will help when I'm craving sugar. Other times I'll just get a tablespoon of peanut butter and really enjoy it slowly. It's usually only the first taste that satisfies the craving. The binge is 'because it's there'.

Have something small with you that you dislike. For me it is a peppermint. I just can't stand the stuff. When I start having a craving I pop it in my mouth and instantly regret it. I spit it out and then don't want anything!!! OK - a bit of mind games with myself - but it works for me! For some folks it is black licorice flavored stuff - there is always something... Good Luck!
