Someone at my old job had my boss text me to have me call her because she wants to talk to me about applying for her job when she retires.

I am so flattered...oy. That's the second time someone from there wanted me to get their job.

But my current job is very very cushy job that's reliable long-term but I'd be a better fit for an event planning job like this one would be...but they've been doing lay offs.

Not sure...I am scared to even call her to discuss it because I'm not sure if it would be a good move for me because I know they've been doing lay offs?

If anything it's flattering..but I will have to call her at some point and say something! I hate big decisions...

If this interview goes well on Tuesday and by some miracle I got this job it would be an even better move I think...but not as much fun as this one would be.

Lay offs are bad and super stressful. Reliable and cushy long term is good. An economic downturn in the overall economy is just a matter of time, and event planning businesses will take a hit then. Good luck on Tuesday!

It never hurts to talk to someone about a job, especially when you hold all the cards. If it doesn’t feel right, don’t do it!

Always discuss any job offers, just to find out for yourself, you don't have to say anything about your decision until they make you a job offer. :) All, you have to do is discuss the duties, pay etc. Good Luck!

Just ask yourself- do you need more fun right now? Or more stability? That might help you make a decision 🤷‍♀️ You are young and still have time to experiment and figure things out.

Call anyways , write three questions down about the job and write down your response .

If your heart's wanting it, perhaps go ahead and have the talk... know, for sure whether it'd be a good change. And, I'd want a contract... in light of their recent layoff activities, but that's just me.

Security these days is essential but don't settle because it's safe. I would hate to see you booting yourself later for not doing what you love. Cushy is nice but the unknown can be exciting. This is coming from "Bored in the Poconos"😱😲🙋

It can't hurt to put in for it to get information about the job that maybe you don't know. You can always say you changed your mind.

In the conversation, you might want to ask your boss how many hours she works a week, maybe the extra monies with the promotion might lower your salary depending upon the hours she puts in... Something to think about!! Be cautious, I've been there..

Taking an interview is not a big decision. Always take the interview. Unless you are truly too busy, which you are not. If someone thinks highly enough of you to sponsor you for a position, thereby staking their reputation, that is no small thing. Prove them right with the caliber of your candidacy. When you later decide to not pursue, discuss it with your sponsor in the context of "career fit" and explain what would be a terrific fit for you. And express gratitude for the sponsorship. Now you have another pair of feet on the street that thinks highly of you, understands what you seek, and will send you useful referrals.

Great advice Jimmiepop.

Agreeing with jimmiepop here. Taking the interview is showing respect for the confidence they have in you and your abilities, even if you decline the offer, you will have strengthened connections.
