I have to laugh at myself, because my sugary cravings have come back. Which means, I may have to start at Phase 1 over again. I made cookies today for Pete's sake! AND I HAD 4 OF THEM! This eating of sugary crap is going to kill me. Diabetes runs SOO high on my mom's side.. and considering I had gestational when I was pregnant.. yeah, 50% of getting it later. That and my dad's lovely CAD is what I get to look forward to.

Okay, just typing that last sentence makes me believe that I'm going to start over on Phase 1 again. well, I might. I'm just having the damnedest time intergrating breads into my diet. The fruit i have no issue with.. I do at least one a day..

What am I doing wrong?!

I also had gestational diabetes, yes, up to 50% more risk! Come on girl. I agree with going back to phase 1 to get rid of those cravings. I had to do that recently, some of us just cant handle even a little sugar. I told veggies yuk today that I'm like a sugar junkie...I have some and then I'm like, "sugar,sugar,sugar,sugar...num,num,num" Then the next day I have even MORE cravings! Hang in there and keep journaling! you can do it! You CAN do it!

I've had type 2 diabetes for 20 years. Thanks Mom and Dad and many other relatives plus I burned the candle at both ends. I finally got serious when I decided to live long enough with all my body parts to see my grandchildren grow up. It will take you three days before your brain stops telling your body that you are starving and you need something to eat. I've lost 90lbs and have 36 to go and I have to focus everyday to keep the carbs from sneaking up on me. Good luck, you can do it, the taste for sugar will go away.

my hubby with on South Beach with me. He has been diabetic type 2 for about 15 years (I thought it was 20 but he says different)...anyway, He has reached his goal weight, eats south beach style and is now no longer diabetic. That just happened within this last month. His doc said he wished all his patients would do it! diabetes type 2 is preventable. Hang in there, good things will happen slowly and you can live long healthy lives.

It's hard to work the breads in. I completely agree. I guess the main thing is to get breads or pastas made with 100% whole wheat and not a mix of whole wheat and refined. They usually mix refined flour into the mix because it makes a prettier bread with a better texture, but it is at your expense! Try going to a health food shop and telling them you want to find a bread that is 100% whole wheat and not a mix of flours. Good luck.
