Good morning FS buddies...

So, you may all remember me telling you that we are renters. Have been for most of the time that we've been together, except one point where we owned for a short while. We, I believe, are model renters. We always leave the house in move in ready shape. We have always received our FULL refund when we move out-- except this time!!! We just got our move out statement from the property management, and they are actually charging us an additional $300 on top of the $975 they've already got!! Is there anyone out there that knows about rental laws? They are charging us for repainting, which I've always understood could not be charged for if you live in the house for a year or more. Also, we cleaned the house for 3 days according to their specs, yet they are still charging us $195 for that!! On top of $150 for labor.... I'm going to fight this, that's for sure!!!

Took my youngest daughter in for ortho consultation yesterday... she has gapping, which the doctor said is very easy to fix, but also has a greater risk of returning without the vigilant use of a retainer... So, we need to make a decision on how important these braces are to her before we shell out $4500!!

So, with a crazy work week, we didn't get to the gym EVERY night, but did get there every other night at least. TOM arrived this morning, so that may have something to do with my additional weight throughout the week... I was back down to 152 this morning when i checked.

Gotta head to work. Talk to you all later! Have a great day!!

Oh my! I'd start with a phone call to them and ask them to explain, and then I'd ask for their manager and start climbing the ladder. Dang... I can't believe there are actually trying to charge you. Fight it and keep asking for higher up people. I've learned that (as well you know, too), the higher you go, the more authority they have in leniency. Good luck!

When it rains it pours huh? Sorry to hear about that. Not sure if the rental laws are the same everywhere. I would definately check out your local laws though. I work in orthodontics. I am an assistant. Retainers are very important after treatment. Many orthodontists have payment plans and finance companies to go through. Good luck with everything.

Be the squeaky wheel until you get your answers. I don't know your local laws either, but it sure doesn't sound right. Good job getting your gym workouts in!

I did apartment property management for 4 years when we lived in Denver. I'm not sure what the laws are, but I believe it would be based on what your contract says. We never charged people for repainting unless they damaged the walls or something was excessive wear and tear. They should have a copy of your lease. I would approach this as kindly and calmly as you can and maybe talk to them in person if possible. Explain you have always been model renters and cleaned the house for 3 days. Ask if you can review the charges with them and then ask for specifics on why they are charging what they are. If they were thorough, they should have taken pictures of the specific things they are charging you for. ie-if there is a hole in the wall, then you take a picture of it to prove it. I think you should be able to make headway if you approach them and go through it logically. I would def. look at the lease and see if it says anything about charging you to repaint, b/c otherwise you should not have to pay for that. Let me know what happens with it or if you need any more thoughts on the matter.
