I'm feeling low lately. I can't beat my addiction. I don't care about myself and have 0 willpower. I can't find a healthy substitute that lights up my brain like junk food does. Nothing else makes me feel good. I'm on antidepressants... I thought they would help. I'm so tired of my clothes not fitting and my body hurting. Self care is low on my priority list. I feel like a slug. I'm not sure what writing this will do but... I guess it's good to air it out right?

Girl, I feel your pain! I am in a very similar boat with the willpower struggle. I am in pain too and it looks like we have about the same to lose. Try to give yourself a break, it's so hard because of those jerky voices in our heads. It looks like you have made some decent progress so far on the measurements and I think you can do it. Just be patient!

I sent you a message but i would like a reply first before I spend an hour and then find that the person doesn't exist! Why not make a list of good healthy foods you could enjoy. Nuts and seeds, air popped popcorn with olive oil and parmesan , make your own granola bars, experiment with those delicious looking smoothie bowls. I bet they taste as good as they look. Hard boiled eggs, vegetables and hummus ready at hand . Being on diet can taste good. Set goals that are realistic....5 lbs to start and gain some self confidence....You can do this! Instead of feeling lost and hopeless, you will feel better and make more of an effort to do more rather than wallow in despair. You have been steadily gaining and you don't fill out your chart to keep track. You don't follow others who are succeeding to get some ideas. They have challenges for eating enough fiber for a reason.....eating fiber helps to fill your stomach so you are not constantly hungry. Not that that helps much when you should be eating at least 2000 calories and you have aimed at 500. It's no wonder you have given up on yourself. You have expected too much of yourself and it is not a diet you can sustain. Find your sedentary, maintenance rate..then deduct the 500 calories a day for a 1 lb. loss a week......add in your exercise daily, as i see you do some. Good for you. Exercise will help you lose faster and it will make you feed more energetic and it willl also help with depression, as does the proper foods. Google food for depression.Filling in my calorie chart ahead of time..... oatmeat, tuna sandwich and soup....Chicken veg and pot for dinner....will sate me and then perhaps after planning these main HEALTHY meals you might have some healthy snacks or instead choose that piece of cake to ruin all your efforts. You can meet your goal with smaller goals to keep you focused and believing in yourself. It is not so much a diet as making better choices. Why not just start there and see that you can start things going in the right direction. You are worth it ...don't give up on yourself...I haven't!

First, glad it sounds like you are getting some sort of help (you mentioned anti-depressants). Use them. Second, when you do get up, move even if you do not consider it exercise. At one point in life I was SERIOUSLY overweight. I got challenged by my dr. to do something and when she came back in the room she asked what I planned to do first. As it turned out, we brainstormed a list of all the healthy things I already KNEW I should do, but on that list I decided on ONE. When it was a habit, I put a check and picked the next thing. There were times I lost rapidly, then seemed to not lose at all, but I kept it up, reviewed my list so I did not lose my good "habits". In addition, I started walking--not much at first but by the time I got back to healthy...but it was incremental. The last piece of advice from someone else, was to get a few pieces of clothing that actually FIT and you feel good in. I was working, needed to be in public now and again and that was great advice. NOT oversized, just right sized for the size you are, including something to walk in. I found which Ross Dress for Less carried suits, tops. And when I was not longer that size, I kept one size up for those up and downs but beyond that, donated the rest. If you feel you look good, which you can do at any size, particularly if you are working and in public, it makes a difference. For me, keeping my hair cut made a difference. I get in a blue funk when my hair is hard to manage, which it is right now and as a senior I am not going out to get cuts (think virus). You will find your own path, but the best advice was one good habit at a time. I also figured out that a piece of chocolate a day (some days I do not bother)usually at my afternoon blahs, made a BIG difference. NO high calorie bon bons, but just a simple piece of chocolate. Can you tell I like structure to change and it really helps me. It is easy for all of us to give advice. My oldest granddaughter died this past August--she was terrific and an ER Nurse, in her 30's of cancer. It has brought severe depression to her Mom, my oldest daughter. You can get through your depression. Keep getting help, and get out of bed, even if hard. When you can do that, figure out the next thing and then pat yourself on the back. It is not easy. BTW, my first habit that I decided to tackle was to make sure I drink enough water during the day. It was easy at work to NOT do that. Once I did that as a habit, I tackled fast food places as I was in a car a bunch. The places I stopped (no need to do that now that I am retired) I figured out the healthiest offerings they had and that is what I ordered instead of what I had done before. It would have been better NOT to eat any of it, but the goal was to shift my habits, one at a time. I hope this offers you some things to consider. You need to figure out and do what suits you. I shared what works for me. With aloha, SCP

so cool of you to share. Suggestion: do 5 things every morning. If you do them you are successful for that day. You get 1 point for each. 1. Use the Restroom. 2. Brush your teeth. 3. Floss 4. Make your bed. 5. Do your devotions. If you do this for one day, you have won that day...and each day you do it.

Someone mentioned you weren't following anyone on the site. I checked & see that's true. I started following others for various reasons....maybe they posted food I found interesting. Or something they said in their journal resonated with me....or amused me. Now I regularly connect with others and that helps me feel accountable. Lots & lots of good advice & suggestions. Follow a few others & see if connecting with them gives you some additional motivation....or if nothing else makes you smile.

I do use food for comfort when I’m feeling low. I actually had to start doing some low impact exercises to help me feel better. Just get outside for fresh air. I bike but walking is great too. I’ve also started doing yoga in the mornings before work and that helps get me going without reaching for the junk. There are so many good meditations online for free.

Sorry you feel this way. I am in the same boat you are. Food makes me happy too. The thing I am trying to focus on is that if I slip I don't beat myself up, but back on the wagon I go. Every day is a new day, every meal is a new beginning. Dont give up, just get back on the horse.

I see you've had a lot of responses here and rightfully so. Positive response is key to change but we all need to change in our own ways and no one else's right way is going to be your bright way. Find something that you like to do that you feel makes you happy. Happiness is the start. Healthy mind then healthy body will follow. Find a way to reward your self with that happiness by doing something that makes you just a little healthier. baby steps at first and push from there learn to associate healthy tasks with things that make you happy. I hope this helps I know opinions are like aholes. feel free to follow me if you ever want none pushy positive feedback 🤓

It probably doesn't help that we are living though such a rough time in our history. So don't be surprised that I and probably others are feeling low, unmotivated, not giving attention to our self care. But this doesn't make it any less an issue. Try testing a few things to see if they help. I've learned that I am low in Vitamin D and taking Vitamin D actually improves my energy level. Coffee with coconut oil helps boost my energy in the morning. Dark chocolate is one of my few treats and I love it. Hot Chocolate made from scratch using semi-sweet chocolate is a great mood altering beverage too. I also love to dance, so I take at least 15 minutes while cleaning the kitchen to put on upbeat music and dance while I sweep the floor, do the dishes or cook. Also go to You Tube and find all the YouTube funny stuff like bloopers and Jimmy Fallon doing Thank you notes. Watch them and laugh. Laughter is the best way to feel better fast. And finally give yourself permission to cry. Our tears release stress hormones and it is healthy. Watch a sad movie and have a good cry. Also keep on searching for options that work for you and please share them with us.

It takes time and willpower to break the junk food addiction. I’ve been on and off of that wagon many times. All you can do is make up your mind to TRY. Find substitutes, package full bags into serving sizes. Find something to occupy your mind and time outside of food- We’re all struggling with you-

take the time each day for self care even if you need to remind yourself that you are worth taking care of!

Totally good air out. You're not alone. Alot of us suck at this. But that's why we’re doing it. Step by miniscule step if need be, but continue to do it. Remove 1 junk food item from your grasp a week. What does the first 3 letters of diet spell?? Remember, it's a lifestyle change, not a "die"t. What's your reason?? Use that as leverage. And remember to breathe.

Unfortunately you have to make time for yourself. You can’t care for anyone else if you aren’t cared for first. Try something small like a walk or bath. I find that sometimes just a trip to the store by myself can help me relax a bit. Do you enjoy reading? Our library has a summer program and recently started a year long reading program online. It’s simple to do if yours has one too! I’m a reader and I like to read for an hour a day if I can and if I can’t then just a quick chapter. What about online games? I try to play a game of online spades every day just because it engages my mind and I’m forced to forget everything else for those 7-10 minutes per game. I’ve also been know to sing and dance around the house when cleaning or doing laundry. It’s not really me time but it makes my mood a bit lighter. You could also look into a gym membership. Our Ymca has child care and a play ground area inside. We can go lift weights, put my youngest in the day care area and the older girls can play ball, do the rock climbing wall, play games etc or they can all go to play area. There are cameras set up at the play area and it’s monitored at the front desk so I feel that they are safe.
