Good Morning, FS Warriors! Holy Moley! I went to bed at 8:30 last night. I guess plowing takes more out of me than Jillian does; or maybe it was the combination of the two. Well, I may have overdone it a bit on the water; I was up at 2:30 this morning, and then I couldn't really get back to a good sleep. Woke up and got up at 3:15, even though the alarm was set for 3:30. Did my thing with Jillian and crawled up onto the treadmill. The boredom was killing me so I started my walk/run program this morning. Run 1 min/Walk 2 min: Repeat 10 times, cooling down until my heartrate dropped below 120. Heart rate only made it up to 155, which is what my tempo runs typically took me to, so I guess there was no point in putting it off.

My diet seems to be doing pretty well. I went to bed a little hungry, and got up a little hungry. Grabbed a banana before going down to work out, ate half of it and set it down on the counter while I fixed my water bottle. When I went to pick the banana back up I dropped it on the floor, and instead of exercising the 2 second rule, I gave it to the dog. Here we are at hump day, and two more days till my official weigh-in. I'm not worried because any way I look at it, I'm going to be down substantionally from where I was two weeks prior. Getting a little over 2 miles in the morning on the treadmill is making me feel a lot more confident about the direction in which I'm heading.

Sometimes I wonder about all the supplements I take. I've been taking them for so long I'd probably have withdrawels if I quit. Calcium, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Glucosomine/Chondroitin with MSM, a One-A-Day vitamin for mature individuals like myself, and Fish Oil with Omega 3. I really think the Glucosomine helps the joints, and a one-a-day is probaably good, but what do you think about the other stuff?

I know this probably doesn't do a lot for you guys, but writing it down keeps me motivated. Thanks for listening. Toodles!

And BTW, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PAM!"

You're too funny. You did your thing with Jillian. Does your wife know? I don't think you'll have withdrawal, but you will feel a difference. I take oodles of supplements and had to quit 10 days prior to surgery and since it's been postponed until next week, I've been off vitties for 3 weeks and already have the day figured out when I'll go back to taking them. On the advice of a naturopath I'm seeing, if there are no side-effects and you're feeling fine, don't stop taking them. A good day to you.

I too wonder about the supplements; the thought of not taking them feels like driving down the road without a seatbelt now ... just asking for trouble. And the queen of paranoia I REFUSE to take those labeled at 50+ demographics... it's like 'really... what's in them... you're trying to get rid of me now that I'm just a useless dinosaur aren't you...' So I usually take them ... then skip a couple of weeks when the bottle runs out .. and though I don't notice a difference I'll resume again.

You are keeping me motivated too! At least in my head I am working out with you. I wish I had a treadmill at home. I've done a lot of research into the supplements that I take and I have an annual subscription to ConsumerLab.com which rates vitamins and supplements. I really love having this tool. I stopped taking a multi vitamin because I eat so well that I get what I need from the food. I do take fish oil (Garden of Life Oceans 3 Beyond Omega) twice a day, probiotic (Garden of Life RAW Probiotics Ultimate Care) once a day and I swear this stuff has kept me well this year along with my flu shot and it keeps my gut regular and happy. I take the Osteo Biflex twice a day and a potassium pill even though I don't know if I need it because my potassium levels in my blood work are fine but I don't have leg cramps since I started taking them. Of course the leg cramps came when I was on my PERFECT WOE. Which I have not been perfect since June so I have added a little more carbs back into my diet and I think that stops the leg cramps. I agree with Bella that it might be a good idea to stay off of them for a couple of weeks in between buying a new batch.

I think I'm hearing if it ain't broke, don't fix it! I'm kind of leaning in that direction myself. As to what Bella said, my mother said, for whatever reason, that she found some benefit from taking a break from her vitamins every now and then. It's like Dirty Harry though, "Are you feeling lucky, Punk? Are you?"

If you are taking a One-A-Day and were eating a reasonable diet, I'd think you'd be covered on the Calcium, E and C. I read recently that too much calcium can be linked to heart problems.

I used to take vitamins and I quit because I feel I am getting enough from fresh foods. I used to also take Chondroitin because a lot of people say it really helps but then I sort of forgot about it and stopped and did not notice any difference. I would definitely take the fish oil if I did not eat a lot of fish. One biggie that people forget about is vitamin D, especially in the winter, again fish is loaded with that. Vitamin D likely plays the role of preventing colds etc. that some people once thought was a role played by vitamin C.

I've heard arguments both ways. Not sure what is right. But I would do some research on your multi to make sure it is being absorbed and not just passing through. I've heard stories from the guys who empty portable toilets, saying they can read the word "Centrum" at the bottom of the pot. :) TMI I know.

Haha! That's not good; it's a Centrum I take. Hope those guys aren't recycling them! :D
