Getting back into fasting again!

I used to fast 2x a week and ate approx 500-700 calories per day. Usually what I did was I fasted from after dinner the previous night, through the night until dinner the next day.

Doesn't really matter when you start it, but it was always easier for me if half of my fast was when I was sleeping. LOL

This is my big meal of the day.

254 calories
- 12 oz of coffee (made in a french press)
- a Chocolate Mint Zone bar. This is my FAVE flavor!
- a package of seasoned Laver. I love salty and crunchy things so this is a great swatch out for chips. YUM!

It does really well at keeping me full for a long time. I tend to rely on bars when I am getting started or very busy because you don't have to think. Might do this through school. I'll be going to massage therapy school soon and we'll see how I do in class. I predict I'll lose weight easily because I don't think about food as much when I'm busy.

Good luck on the massage therapy class, I hope you learn lots! I know it is a very physical job. I used to eat a lot of seaweed snacks growing up, this brings back memories :D

Thanks, I’m excited to get back into studying. I’m 47 and starting a new career after having a desk job where I worked in my home office all day long. That really ruined my weight. I owed to change my career, someday, to something that was more physically active. Yeah, the Seaweed snacks, gotta love them. When I was living at home, I ate more of my moms cooking and that helped keep me slimmer plus Asian moms are always saying things like, you’re getting fat. 😂 😂 😂. So living on my own and eating more American food, I just ballooned up. So really want to change that. So making a point to start eating the things I used to eat, even if I have to order them online or drive to an Asian market 45 min away. I live in rural Washington, so it can be hard to find the right cuts of meat, veggies, and snacks. Haha. Oh well! I love where I live! That’s the price I pay.

I recently started eating the same kind of Korean olive-oil seaweed, as a 'side dish' with my plain quinoa. Healthier than those heavily-flavoured ones like Taokaenoi/ Little Boss from Thailand :)

@ArtemisBane I know the feeling, I'm thankful that I live 5 minutes away from an Asian market but I still feel my options are so limited and because they are the only one in the area so the prices are high because they drive everything in from Atlanta.

@Bernard. Yeah I love those snacks when I am fasting but really want something to eat. I think the only thing I really miss is rice. Filipino food is so rich because it’s meant to be eaten with rice. I imagine it’s the same for most Asian cultures though. So it’s hard to just remove the rice and eat the dishes as you normally would. What reminded me was you talking about your quinoa. One of my next experiments is to remake a dish that is similar to a congee. I was looking at all of the different grains and quinoa was one of them. But I need something that can cook down like rice to become a porridge consistency. Have you had luck making Asian food keto and eating it without rice so you don’t feel like you’re missing something?

Yea, i''ve eating rice these 41 years haha. Been lugging around 20kg of fats the past 20 years and it was as much as 30kg after the 2-months lockdown in Singapore mid last year. In mid November 2019 I found FatSecret and started counting calories. By limiting to 1500kcal daily with around 500kcal worth of exercise, I dropped from 92kg to 86kg within 6 weeks (the widely known 'safe/ recommended' weight loss rate of 1kg per week). However, I was stagnant at 86kg for 1 months despite eating less than 1500kcal and exercising more than 1000kcal most days. Fortunately I came across the books by Dr Jason Fung and understand that my body has automatically adjusted from 2100kcal BMR to possibly 1000kcal. During calories restriction diets, the body can reduce the basal metabolic rate by more than 50%! Thus to break the plateau, I began an extended fasting and lost 5kg within 6days in early February. Currently on my 2nd extended fast to burn away the fats gained from feasting & snacking over the Chinese New Year celebrations. I think you're on the right track with cauli-rice (something i haven't tried actually). Besides What To Eat, the other success key to weight-loss is When To Eat. I recommend you to read "Life in the Fasting Lane: How to Make Intermittent Fasting a Lifestyle—and Reap the Benefits of Weight Loss and Better Health" ;)
