Fasting blood sugar 147/ weight 164.4
Plan IF/KETO/exercise
Hooray! My A1c at my annual check today was 6.3 (129 glucose) I don't get to drop any oral meds, but I get to cut them from 3xdaily to 2xdaily. That is satisfactory to me. Keto and Intermittent Fasting pay off for diabetic control. There is no doubt about it. My last check was June 18, 2020 and A1c was 10.4. That was when I got serious about IF and Keto. And exercise. Now as for weight control at my age, it is much slower, but does happen with perseverance. That went from 180.9 in June, 2020 down to 164.4 this morning. That's about 2 lbs per month, but some of those I gained and lost over and over.
So I celebrated with breakfast at IHOP with a side of pancakes. I know food is not the most productive type of reward, but I haven't had pancakes at IHOP in years -- and probably won't for another year. Now I must keep on Keto-ing down the next step.

I've been thinking about Cracker Barrel Pecan Pancakes, and I definitely see them in my future. Like you, probably something I will do once in the year.

A couple of things that are absolutely essential for all diabetics to monitor closely is your kidney function— which includes a GFR and albumin/creatinine ratio, like twice a year minimum— were you not seen in the last year just because you didn’t go to the doctor or they didn’t order it or what. Were those tests done this time but were ok? You do not want to end up on dialysis.

Hi Kenna, yes my doctor monitors that yearly. In fact because the creatine was a couple of points above what it should be this time, I'm supposed to see him again in six months. This is the first time the creatine has been any out of line in over 20 years.

It is actually recommended that T2 diabetics should have kidney testing every six months and include an albumin level.

A big improvement in a year. Hopefully you can reach your goal and eventually get off the meds altogether with your doctor's approval of course?

Texasgranny6. — as we age our body’s are not as forgiving as they might once have been. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is insidious. One day all is fairly good and then without warning, it’s not. Stay on this my friend. Does your doctor know you are on a keto diet. If not, PLEASE talk to him about this.

Kenna, thanks for your concern. He knows I do Keto and knows I am doing IF. I will be watching for CKD and talk to him at the first hint of any problem. Meanwhile it is a warning to be even more careful with the diabetes, and read what I can about CKD.

Kenna, I read what Diet Doctor says about Kidney disease and will be following his recommendations about eating. Thanks for the alert.

Texasgranny6– also check out Healthline.com lots of great subjects written in a very easy to read way and not full of a lot of medical jargon. The key here for you as you follow this kidney issue is to stay on top of it and don’t let following your lab values fall through the cracks. Also read the articles that you find, but keep your doctor in the loop and a nutritionist if necessary. Also, depending what your lab values are, it may be appropriate to ask if you need to be evaluated by a nephrologist.. an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure—- oh yea, there is no cure except dialysis and you don’t even want to go there.
