I haven’t written a journal in a long while. This morning I did my first upper body weight training workout since I had the flu week before last. I added 5lbs of weight on several of my exercises and I am feeling pretty darn good. I know it was a good workout because I do push-up’s last to measure how much I got left in my “tank”. I was able to do one set of 8 with proper form, then on my next set, my form fell apart after the first one so I quit. This tells me that I worked hard today.

As far as my blood sugar goes, it seems to be heading in the right direction now. My fasting level this morning was 121. Then after working out (45 min) and drinking my protein shake, it was 116. Much better than the fasting 140-161’s I saw last week when I was over stressed and ill. I just checked it now, 3.5 hours since I had the shake and I am at 103. Seeing this instantly lowers my stress levels!

As far as diet goes, I’ve been sticking to the plan. I was supposed to go walking and do a core/ab workout yesterday evening, but we went out to eat beforehand to our favorite seafood restaurant in town. I ordered something that I have had many times in the past, but this time I had a reaction to it, as if I had eaten gluten. Bloated and painful for about 4 hours. The only thing I did differently was I took two bites of baked potato with some skin. That’s the only difference, and they were small bites. I’m thinking my body is no longer able to handle some types of carbs after being so restrictive for so long. Oh well, lesson learned. I really don’t miss baked potatoes that much, it’s the toppings that taste so good anyway. Sour cream, butter, bacon and chives are perfect for my low carb diet. Next time we eat there I may just ask for a bowl of the toppings and tell them to leave the potato in the kitchen. I’m sure they will think I’m a nut, but I kinda am, so who am I to worry about it.? haha

Keep up the good (and hard) work everyone!

Thanks Yolanda! I really missed the potatoes, pasta and bread at first but I'm over it at this point. I do look forward to get my body fat down and being able to modify my diet some to include some fruits, sweet potatoes and other complex carbs.

I'm one half Hispanic and the other half is the mixed mutt blood of the white Americans lol, but potatoes are for everyone! :-) lol If you have to do without, Brent, I'm glad you're not missing it. I would die, for sure lol

Sounds like having the flu gave your muscles some much needed rest! Glad to hear your blood sugar is down. FYI - Mine (fasting) has been under 100 for 4 years not. Just so you know it can be done with diet.

One more thing I thought of. My buddy told me to always eat organic potatoes. Potatoes soak up all the nutrients in the ground, but they also soak up all the bad stuff too like residue from petroleum based fertilizers and pesticides. I was told they used them to "cleanse" the soil for other crops. Don’t know if it’s true or not, I haven’t researched it so take it with a grain of salt. I have gone almost all organic with my veggies anyway.

I go organic wherever feasable. From September through December (hunting season) my protein supply is as organic as it gets!

I envy you Chad. That’s awesome! I haven’t had the opportunity to hunt in years. Luckily I have friends and family that do and I can get a fair amount of free venison each year.

Congrats on being in charge of what you put in your body. When we decide that we cant give up a food, we have decided to give our control to a food.

Here lately I have become quite the senile old man when it comes to our nation's food supply. I’ve probably watched a few too many documentaries on Netflix lately about the subject. I am just amazed by our money driven industrial food industry which puts zero emphasis on nutrition and 100% on profit. We are getting sick and dying from our food every day. It’s scary! I may have just become the only redneck hippie in existence. haha

Hahaha - that would be kind of hilarious if you just asked for a bowl full of baked potato toppings, without potato... I know I'd look at you funny if I were your waitress!
