That's actually excellent. It means that you're gaining muscle mass.

Weird it doesn't feel excellent looking at those numbers.. 171 pounds is such a large number for a woman. it's depressing for me. lol.. now if i was a guy it would be different.

it's no different. what do you want? ultimately what do you want? To look smaller and better? or to have a "magic number"? If it's the number, then sure it's depressing, but if you want to look better and feel better and BE smaller, then I would say you are winning.

I want to be strong, fit and healthy and not look and be FAT!!!!How is it possible to be a woman and be 171 pounds at 5'4 and be fit!! maybe i am naive but that freaking number on the scale is soo disturbing to me. I have been working my ass off in the gym with a trainer 3x a week and doing cardio on the other days. I just don't understand the weight gain thats all

i get that, but from what you are saying here, you want to be strong, fit and healthy, none of those things are tied down to a number. They are much more than a number. So you are winning, don't let the number mess with your head. You are putting in the work and you are seeing results. End. of. story. (and yes, a 171 pound woman at 5'4" can be fit, because you ARE.)

Thanks Alex~ I really needed to hear something positve...I should change my new primary doctor because he is the one that made me feel worse about being 171 and said I should lose weight meanwhile i tried to tell him I lift weights and he didn't listen.(besides HE is extremely obese) so why should I be listening to him? LOL

I wouldn't listen to him, if he can't take his own advice, then how worthy is it really?

Eat carbs only in the morning. Make your afternoon carb free. Try it for a week and see what happens.

Docs like that annoy the bejeebers out of me. They look at a number on a chart and if you're above that, BAD YOU!! I agree with Alex- strong, fit and healthy doesn't always have a magic number. Best of luck finding a doc that will evaluate your TOTAL health rather than just the one number.

If you're gaining muscle that could be a contributor to slight weight gain. Also when you lose fat its redistribution in your body could cause you to lose inches. Just some thoughts.
