He is trying to tell you something ! Based on how my cat eats or doesn't eat he is either 1) being manipulative and just wants more to eat. I know how my cat begs for treats and when the bowl is empty, two different behaviour, or 2) he may have some underlying health issue where even though he is eating he may not be getting the nutrients he needs and is "starving" and still "hungry". If he is older and this is a new behavior that you don't reward with more food I would get his bloodwork done. An early sign of diabetes in cats (and dogs) is they have insatiable hunger and can eat and eat but not gain weight. Sometimes they eat more and lose weight. Every illness my cat and recently deceased cat had started with change in interest in food. My JoJo almost two years ago was diagnosed with early stage of kidney failure. She was eating more but losing weight. A change in her food resulted in stabilizing her weight loss she now is eating normally and has normal blood labs. It would be so wonderful if pets could talk because figuring out what is going on can be a puzzle we can never figure out !

He is always hungry. Rescue who was abandoned in the back yard and was extremely underweight when I got him, he's very dramatic about an empty dish and my ongoing attempt to starve him between meals. He carries the dish around and tosses it when I'm not prompt in feeding him.

Lol! My doggies toss their metal bowls also. Some days it sounds like an 8-year-old with a set of cymbals. Great pic, Katsolo.

I'm w/Suereichert. He's bored. Maybe he wants to chase a Frisbee or go fly a kite at the park?

That’s actually the red dog’s bowl. They trade when they’re almost done. It’s a quirky little ritual they have. He only chews on her bowl though.

Alsatian tradition suggest the sideways vertical food dish is meant to convey a sense of extreme ennui and deep apathy. I think his expression and posture certainly bear this out.
