Hello FS Friends! Wishing you a wonderful holiday season!

I am struggling. I am not a fan of winter at the best of times and always terrified of walking on snowy-icy sidewalks. This year, that fear has escalated. I was even walking without a stick/cane a week ago because there was no snow. Snow came. I avoided going outside; today I did. I took the quad cane for most support, laced up the boots and went out. People in elevator made fun of my cane, trying to be funny but it wasn't. I walked down sidewalk - not too bad! I even started across in crosswalk but froze. The panic, the fear, the road felt slippery, more than the sidewalk. Tears in eyes, I shuffled back. I walked down block, defeated but tried again at different crosswalk, less traffic. It seemed daunting. More tears. Walked another block then headed home. It was a bit much today but I will try again tomorrow!

I feel humiliated and humbled with these small steps. I feel alone because others don't seem to understand. I will keep trying, for myself, to feel strong and safe to walk on wintery sidewalks. Winter is a long season here! LOL

Just to let you know where I am at. I don't feel like posting much at the moment.

I do wish you a successful week for all your small steps and efforts to keep moving forward! :)

I hear you love I am not a fan of winter either. Much less getting out walking and biking. We can do this even better once Christmas is over and to start a fresh. Hang in there love better days ahead

This snow/rain mix makes the sidewalks, crosswalks and roads so slick & scary for walking. Then today with the snow you cannot even see the ice underneath. Do the penguin shuffle with your fancy new cane. Nothing wrong with heading home when feeling uncomfortable. Happy Holiday Season.

I remember being on crutches after surgery back when I was in high school. Took a huge (and highly dramatic) fall on the ice in front of my friends. Horrifying! And painful! Do be careful!

HUGS. Is it possible to get the metal teeth to attach to your boots for grip on the ice? I found they really worked well, and gave me some confidence.

Ice claws available at Costco, or Canadian tire and don’t be embarrassed, I’ll bet you’re doing more than the people looking out their windows and scoffing. An d adage: never accept criticism from anyone you wouldn’t go to to get advice.

I am scared of icy sidewalks too, so you're not alone. Whatever you can do in your space inside do so until the season is done. And if possible grab those Ice claws from Canadian Tire as suggested. I am going to get myself a pair too.

We all have our own forms of icy sidewalks, don't ever feel ashamed about it. Some of the strongest people in the world freeze when they see a spider. Keep your positive side up.
