Steps yesterday: 2,931. New daily average to beat: 954.

Two culinary experiments last night with mixed success: rice crispy treats and homemade Larabars. Log Cabin Syrup not thick enough to hold the rice together. Didn't have dates for the Larabars so I substituted raisins. I really needed an 8x8 pan to form bars. All I had was a muffin tin.

Pleasant dreams last night

Good job, that will definately get your heart pumping and burning more calories, too.

I'm using a Striiv Smart Pedometer. I used to use it and a Smart Health watch, whichever was higher. I decided I would get more consistent results by standardization. For the same reason, I clip the pedometer in the same position every day. Ten thousand steps a day is a popular mythical goal popularized by a Japanese pedometer company without any particular basis in science - like BMI and drinking X glasses of water.

I am sorry if that came off as dismissive. Wasn't belittling your goal, just suggesting that 10,000 steps cited by many as a target to shoot for doesn't have a basis in any scientific studies. Obviously, there are plenty documenting the benefits of walking.

draglist, your dedication to your fitness regimen is impressive. If I had maintained such a program, I wouldn't be dealing with sarcopenia. Any goal is better than no goal at all, but the 10000 steps figure that people use is arbitrary. Some of my steps are compiled while walking around the apartment, but lately a lot of them on the Sunny air walk trainer since I discovered that wider swings register with the pedometer. Smaller swings do not. I suppose that's a good idea because otherwise the pedometer would report simple movements such as shifting in a chair.

in the case of 10K steps - yeah, arbitrary - but what's not measured cannot be improved. they say in a normal day we'd take around 3500 or so steps - so more is always better. 10K steps is fantastic, and a worthy goal on a daily basis. as far as water - why not drink 8 x 8oz glasses a day - we are, what, +75-80% H2O, yeah? more than 3 or 4 glasses a day is better. i think that's what DL is measuring against. doing more, being healthy, and bettering even the 10K. as you are - you are working towards more steps. average daily to beat is 954 - which is arbitrary to others, but meaningful to you. measured success. i applaud you both.

Probably should be more, depending on your weight. No exact consensus except going by urine color, and that is a hassle. I know - I tried. Easier to go by quantity.

I can't speak to the accuracy of theFitbit. Pedometers & fitness trackers in general don't have a great reputation for accuracy. You can see a lot of anecdotal evidence for that based on complaints in Amazon reviews. It's just a matter of time before technology solve this problem. I can see a discrepancy between the Smart Health watch and the Striiv Smart Pedometer, sometimes quite a bit. Still, as Bre says, what's not measured can't be improved.

We're heading towards a future where every aspect of health will be easily tracked and quantified. Still a lot of work to be done so devices and services can all talk to each other. I know of at least two people who no longer use FatSecret for that reason.

As always, technology is a double-edged sword.

I'm also aiming for averaging 10,000. Have a new fitbit, forgot to charge it so it quit Tuesday am. So my week won't be correct. Most days I'm getting in around 8,000 so my aim is to increase that.

Ok, you guys have me thinking I need to start wearing a pedometer again, not a bad thing.
