Exercise plus intermittent fasting may boost brain's neurons

Steps yesterday: 2,858. New daily average to beat: 983.

Decided I will do two weigh-ins tomorrow, one with the Omron and one with the EatSmart scale. Morning weigh-in with the Omron since that's what I've been doing. Afternoon weigh-in with the EatSmart as a cross check and because it measures water weight and muscle mass. The Omron doesn't measure water weight and measures skeletal muscle as a percentage, not a weight.

Starting my gratitude journal back up using Evernote after two online services died on me. There aren't any good Android apps as far as I can tell.

Chris, will you switch from the Alternate Day Diet to the 5-2 Diet, two days a week low calorie? Thanks for the article you posted.

Alternate days are easier to keep track of. I may up my calorie count on down days. At this point, I am more concerned with regaining muscle mass.

Draglist, if you're feeling great now, how does that compare to the past?

Awesome and inspiring! Shows that it's important people use metrics rather than vague goals.

As the author of a strength training book says, make time for exercise now or make time for illness later.

Very encouraging! :) Just curious....what do the 2 of you (*note to everyone reading,I am asking Chris & Bill)believe is the #1 challenge I should address that would make the greatest positive impact in what I'm doing,or not doing,in order for me to reach my goals as described in my Bio,Journal,Comments, etc? :)))

I can say, amen, brother, to daily exercise, based on personal experience. I thought I could skate by on 2-3-4 bike rides a week. Sarcopenia has shown me wrong.

You are on the right track, mya, by losing weight gradually. Too rapid weight loss and your metabolism slows down to compensate. I tried severe calorie restriction and I may help lost muscle as well as far.

May have, not help.

Sorry to butt in guys! What do guys consider rapid weight loss? I don't want to overdo it and end up slowing down overall weight loss over months...

Conventional wisdom says a pound a week.

That's what you should shoot for.

mya, you're also on the right track by setting mini-goals and rewarding yourself for reaching them, as recommended by behavioral science.

Draglist, just got the Kindle edition of "Younger Next Year." Was aware of the book, but put off by some reviews. Decided to go ahead based on your endorsement. May get the women's version for my sister.

I will give one to my brother-in-law. My sister has to work on him to exercise.
