Back to recording my food diary in FatSecret. One thing I like about the FatSecret Android app is that it puts a running total of your protein intake at the top of the page. I suspect MyFitnessPal has a more comprehensive food database.

FS doesn't list Arrowhead Mills chocolate cake so I just substituted a generic version. I will try the barcode feature and see if it works. I'm a tech pessimist and have the scars to prove it. I'm always pleasantly surprised when a feature works. I'm not going to the hassle of adding a product to the database by hand that I may never eat again.

Looks like my one hour phone consultation with the sports physiologist and nutritionist will happen later this month. He wanted to know if I had any way to measure body fat. Does a bear sleep in the woods? I have an Omron full body composition scale, an Omron handheld body fat monitor, an EatSmart scale, and calipers.

Five pound bag of split peas supposed to arrive Tuesday, part of my effort to up my fiber and protein count.

I can pretty much turn anything into a time suck. I'm gradually weaning myself from free Kindle cookbooks.

Did you laugh out loud at the sports physiologist? Do you have a way to measure body fat, indeed! I have to resist my gadget temptations when I read your journal. But I sure know who to ask for advice when I get serious about buying a new scale or pedometer. I use the barcode feature of FS from time to time, but I also have to add foods to the database from time to time. Sometimes I get lazy and just pick something with a similar calorie count. I don't really track my protein/carbs. etc., so it doesn't mess my totals. The only goal I really have is to keep my protein intake up because I've long since learned my body likes to run on protein.

I found out I was on the low end of the spectrum when I started reading Amazon reviews. There are people who have owned every model of every Fitbit, Jawbone, etc. fitness tracker there is. Same for tablets, etc. I suspect it's because you can read all the reviews you want but there's no substitute for hands on experience.

I end up clipping the information on items or looking the up and than add.

With my low body fat, I don't worry about carbs. I'm watching protein like a hawk because I don't want to lose any more muscle mass.

I paid for a one hour appointment with a Dietitian and she told me that my protein was low. Whey protein is a lifesaver. It is the best thing I added to my diet.

starstar73 posted a link on a recent journal to a most informative article on the benefits of whey protein.

Gadgets sounds pejorative. Another word is tools. I'm always surprised at what people are willing to spend money on, but balk at investing in their health.

Interesting...I never thought of gadgets as a pejorative term. I certainly didn't mean it that way. I agree that investing is your health is a wise decision and it gives me something to think about now in allocating my limited funds. Thanks.

I see a podiatrist and knee specialist this month...hopefully they can help me so I can start running again without pain. :)

Maybe I am being defensive, Chris, having surrendered to gadget temptations myself. :-)

No problem Chris. I recently surrendered to a large yarn purchase for knitting, so I would never judge!

I just bought some new shelves and drawer inserts for my kitchen and spare bedroom. So far loving my decision and much îs still in boxes in my garage.
