The good news: comprehensive testing says I'm healthy. The bad news: I'm the healthiest physical wreck you've ever seen. Next step: a referral to a neurologist.

I hoped to overcome my weakening state through diet and exercise. It is time for a deeper dive to see if there is an underlying condition that is driving this.

My attitude has been, I'm handling this, I'm handling this, I'm handling this - oops, I'm not handling this...

That sports physiologist/nutritionist was very thorough in setting goals for you. I was impressed. Hoping your neurologist says you are good to go. Have a Happy New Year!

Deb, I continue to throw stuff against the wall and see it sticks. I have reached the limit of what I can do on my own. It's time to ask the experts.

C.C.I agree with Deb, it sound's like you have a good plan of action and support team. The best of luck with your neurologist. Truly J.J.

So sorry that your weakness continues. Hopefully the docs can find a cause and give you a solution. I was thankful I had an excellent neurologist who helped me with my chronic migraines.

Good luck Chris with your neurologist. You have done an awesome job on your own. You certainly have a lot of support, including mine. Take care.

I take heart from all the encouraging stories here of people such as wholefoodnut who have overcome migraines, lost tremendous amounts of weight, lowered blood pressure, reversed diabetes, etc.

Chris, diet changes have helped my migraines a whole lot. Neurologist had me doing an extensive diary of everything in my life for a year. Turned out processed foods and not taking magnesium supplements were a big part of the answer.

I regret not seeking medical help earlier. I would probably have gotten the same answer - you're healthy - but I would be farther along to seeing specialists.

Chris, hard to tell. I wasn't healthy, I was in pain 24/7, thanks to 3 doc's advice I'm doing well now. I couldn't stand the constant migraine pain any longer. At that point, I finally had health insurance again, I hadn't had any for several years. When I went to the doc I had had a migraine constantly for over 6 months and had had them frequently for several years. I was lucky and was referred to a doc (unlike my GP at the time) who did not throw drugs at me but wanted to find causes. He did put me on drugs to break the cycle and to decrease them, but weaned me off of them. My weight loss/exercise trigger was another excellent doc. One that told me if I lost weight and started strength trying and cardio I may not have to have a knee replacement. My now GP is terrific and pushes me to do more, she uses me as an example to other patients my age. She has asthma mostly under control and works with me on that.

My migraines are always triggered by glare and lack of sleep. Everyone has their own triggers...I've heard diet can play a big part for many people who suffer from migraines. It's hard to figure out since you have to determine which foods. Good luck with your neurologist, hopefully you will find an answer. Migraines are totally miserable.

Msmightypup, my doc had me keep a journal for over a year. Activities, what I ate, weather, when my headaches started. Processed meats, msg, asparatine, many processed foods, were all triggers as was weather changes and some light, I now wear a ball cap often to deflect light. He also put me on a magnesium supplement. Migraines are now few and far between as I try hard to avoid triggers and take my magnesium.

I appreciate your revealing that you wish you had seek medical help earlier. I too, am moved by the encouraging stories here of people such as wholefoodnut who have overcome migraines, lost tremendous amounts of weight, lowered blood pressure, reversed diabetes, etc. But weight loss is not a cure to all problems. Sometimes, more is going on than just bad food choices. Visits to a specialist often rule out more serious problems. I think you are wise to do so and an example for the rest of us. Stay on it...

John, believe me, my docs have been instrumental in my journey. I agree totally. Migraines were over a year working closely with a neurologist, and then continuing with my GP. I still evaluate what is happening if I get a headache of any kind and if the chronic ones return would be back to my neurologist quickly.

wholefoodnut, I haven't experienced any pain. My symptoms weren't alarming enough at first to drive me to seek treatment. The last time I had to do so in the last five years was for impacted ear wax. I take no prescriptions nor did I get any after my recent exhaustive workup.

John10251, true that. You make an important point which I hope people on FS will take to heart.

I agree, check with your docs. Especially don't start an exercise program without checking with your doc first. My journey started with a recommendation from an orthopedic specialist and followed through with the support of my GP.
