Happy Wednesday...

Well, today I was officially diagnosed with glaucoma. My eye pressure was high for the past 4 visits to my eye doctor. The one in December was slightly down (though still considered too high) so we decided to see if it continued to fall. We both thought the falling pressures might be a happy side effect of losing weight. This morning I went in hoping for good news that my pressures had continued to fall. Unfortunately they were back up to the too-high mark for me. So now I need to start using an eye drop daily...I really wanted to come on this site with a great testimony of the wonderful effect losing weight had on my eye pressure - it helps people with their blood pressure, so it made sense to me...

My eye doctor used to be my boss. I retired from my job as an accounts coordinator (insurance/billing) about 3 years ago. I trust her implicitly and know she would not put me on eye drops unless it was necessary. She did warn me of the side effects...I am a very fair skinned, blue-eyed, used-to-be-blonde-now-white/silver haired 59-year-old lady. She warned me the drops will probably give me brown flecks in my blue eyes and give me dark circles on the skin under my eyes...BLAH! The more positive side effect is longer/darker lashes. Truthfully, I worked around the eye care business long enough to know this is nothing to fool around with. I'm too young to take chances with my vision. So eye drops and under-eye concealer are in my future. I am blessed to live in a time when this condition can be diagnosed and treated BEFORE I have a loss of vision...and for that I am very thankful!

I'm staying true to my new lifestyle, learning to eat more whole foods and exercise daily. I've started using my new elliptical. I can do about 15 minutes and then a 5 minute break because my toes keep going numb! I do an hour of elliptical total. I tried changing shoes, but it doesn't help. Something about the way I'm standing puts too much pressure on the ball of my foot, which then makes my toes tingly. It doesn't help that I have venous insufficiency in my legs. I used to have problems with my hands getting tingly when I rode my bike, but I made a point of loosening my grip and found it helped. I'm just not sure how to "loosen the grip" on my feet.

Have a great Hump Day! The weekend is coming!!

Thanks Encouraged! I appreciate that. Like I said, I do feel blessed to live in a time where there are things that can be done to prevent vision loss. And I feel blessed to have a great relationship with my doctor/friend. She is a wonderful Christian lady with a heart of gold and incredible skills so I feel God has placed me in wonderful hands.

Praying for you too Grammy. I just saw my doc for my annual pelvic, & she found that I have some fibroid cysts. So tomorrow I'm having a pelvic ultrasound to gain more info. It seems every time I see the Dr they find something else wrong with me! Prayers would be greatly appreciated for this. At least you have a Dr you know & trust to care for you, that is a huge comfort & blessing. May our Lord continue to bless & keep you, & guide your Dr to give you the best possible treatment. Hugs, GLAMMER
