Absolutely! So much of making changes is retraining our brains to see food as fuel, not as entertainment. It's really hard when you grow up like that.
Good for you!

I had to stop eating what I was craving entirely and eat something else instead that way my stomach wasn’t making the decisions.

As a food addict so much of what I ate was ruled by my emotions. In my family everything revolves around food. So breaking that cycle has been very hard. Now I see food as a way to fuel my body, not something to help me cope or celebrate, etc.

Wow this post hit me so hard. Every celebration we had revolved around going out to eat. My parents celebrated everything. I have a family now and am trying not to continue that unhealthy cycle.

I learned to stop after eating a "normal" amount and wait 15 minutes. If I'm still hungry, I eat more but usually decide I'm good and go on. Since starting Keto I don't really have a problem. keep up the good work!💖

Boy can I relate. Have just been thinking the past few days about how everything was about food as I was growing up. I loved my mom like crazy but she was a fabulous cook and we all overate. (But she was slim until after I was born.) Maybe because she grew up in the depression plus being Italian. A combination of Food = love, nothing goes to waste, and sometimes emotional eating. I won’t list any meals because they’re too tempting. How I wish we had gotten a grip on our unhealthy habits back then. Thanks for sharing.

You are ahead of the game if you are thinking about your relationship with food and not just 'following rules.' Yay you!!

Why we eat helps us know what/ when we eat. Your story has much importance
in your journey. Keep journaling and best of luck on your journey!!👍

It makes me so angry whenever I read on FS about parents feeding their kids drive-thru food. It's not hard or time consuming to pack a lunch of PB&J plus an apple for them. I understand that you don't want to blame your family for instilling poor eating habits, but as a child, you mirrored and that's how kids learn. Plus it's not like you had your own money and vehicle to grocery shop. I'm glad you've put on the brakes and can see clearly now.

I don’t have a problem with fast food so much but I was more pointing out that when I was a kid I was eating two very large sandwiches by myself.

Congrats on the Food Awareness.
We still celebrate with food in our family, however it is not food coma excuses. Smaller amounts and healthier methods of preparing the food are the focus. Food is not served on the table. You have to get up from the table to get more. We also eat on smaller plates.
Being aware of what constitutes a serving is powerful knowledge. Changing a lifetime of poor eating habits is difficult. Changing your mind first and educating yourself on calories vs nutrition is empowerment in action! Be Proud of yourself!

I have never eaten 2 Whoppers but have eaten a half a pizza. I find portion size to be fairly shocking and small.

I agree with Morticia. I think they make unreasonably small serving size to entice us to buy less healthy food and over eat it. OMG I sound like a conspiracy theorist!

I haven’t had Doritos since I started counting calories.

I have no immediate comment but I am really thinking about this moment - BK was once a regular weekly event - somewhere between 1X Large and 2X Large. So I am just thinking about that - yes I agree - that this site is such a great find - much better for you and with better long term pay offs than any Whooper on any day of any week.
