Quick question about Pedometers - who uses them and do you find them accurate? I had a worthless cheap one years ago and I tossed it into the garbage. I just ordered another one (free gift from accumulated points on my debit card). Please advise.

Maybe I should mention that the one I threw out I got at McDonalds (free with a salad & drink purchase).

lol McDonalds giving out pedometers....now there's a contradiction in terms!!! I have never tried one long term, but don't see the harm in using one as long as it is accurate - good luck Buffy.

I have "walk with me" which is a "game" on nintendo light. You set how many steps you want to achieve and a little light within the pedometer, glows green when you have achieved your target. You can check, as many times a you want during the day on your progress towards target. You can see, in bar chart form, the "pattern" of your steps ie when you did most / least. It shows you when your "active" steps are - which mens walking for 10 mins at a steady pace. It keeps a permanent record of your daily step achievements - how any steps, pattern of steps. It allows you to put a small diary entry in, so when you look back, you can see "why" you achieved what you did. I have found it pretty accurate too. It certainly encouraged me to walk more - even to the point, if i was 100 or so steps short of my target, I would walk around the house, so I achieved my daily target. Lol sad I know :-)

Tracy - Yes, I think it was part of their introduction of healthy foods campaign. Believe it our not, in the US, there are worse places to eat!.

Sexy - Hope mine will be as good as yours.

Skinny - Mine won't be fun like yours, but maybe there is hope that it will be somewhat accurate. As for your steps around the house I wouldn't laugh - they count just as much as your steps on the trail (and more steps is exactly what I need)!

Been wondering about getting one myself. I think I'll go to ebay and see if they have a weight watchers one. Their stuff is usually pretty accurate.

Hey, Buffy I love pedometers to track my steps everyday, and for my birthday my middle sis got me a Fitbit...it is wonderful and I love the fact that I always know just how many steps, how many miles, how active, and how many calories I burn in a day, is right on the display!

how do they work? Do you strap them on your ankle or something?

It clips to the waist band or bra. It is extremely accurate.

Stef - I can't wait to get mine. I think having one might motivate me to go that extra mile (pun intended).
