I just want to share a story about my beautiful mother.

Last night my mother came over for dinner. I was so happy to see her! As we embraced, I felt like I had not held her in my arms for years... Believe me it was the best and most tender embrace that I have ever shared with my dear momma! I do not know if it is because I am older now or if it is the loss of dear friends that really make me appreciate the bonds in my life!

As I sat there listening to my mother complain about her hands hurting due to arthritis, I thought about what life would be like when I can not hear her complaints. She then said to me, "baby one day I will not be here, momma's going to go home but, I always want you to remember our laughs!" I started to tear up and she said why do you look like you lost your best friend? I said momma the day that you go home to be with Jesus is the day that I will loose my VERY BEST friend and I am not looking forward to that day!" She then hugged me so tight!

I realized last night that one day my mother will be too old to care for herself. Also, how making time for her now and listening to her GREAT words of wisdom are imperative. Life is but a breath and moves so quickly! It seems like yesterday she was teaching me how to skate and how to ride a bike. She has been the back-bone of the family and I am so glad to be a part of her strength. This continues to encourage me to stay on this journey toward optimum health.

Momma just would not have it any other way but to see me healthy and happy!

Love you momma!

It is a new day with endless possibilities! Seeing my life outside of the box is so exciting!!!

Blessings...

It takes a lot of heart to recognize your our mortality. For all the things in our worlds we try to conquer, if were lucky enough we'll close our eyes and never wake up again surrounded by friends and family at a very old age. Sometimes life comes down doing the best you can as long as you can. My Dad died almost 3 years ago and it hurt but was gratful for the times we spent together and the knowlege he passed on to me. As I get older him and my moms are the smartest people I know so they're always with me.

Your mother is fortunate to have a daughter as loving and insightful as you. It is beautiful that you recognize how precious each moment is. I think it is safe to say that your mother did her job in this life, and did it well. When all is said and done, and we return to our Lord, the most important question we ask ourselves is, "Did I give my children the best I could give?" You mother can say "Yes" to this question. That is a blessing. No matter how rich and famous we become, how many people know us, or whether we owned a home or lived on the street, all that really matters is how did we LOVE. Would you consider sending what you wrote to your mother? I think it would bring her a great deal of joy. You honor her by letting her know that she is a wonderful mother and you appreciate her love and sacrifice.

Butterfly - I'm glad for you - my mom I saw last month and she was cordial, but she and my younger sister have both cut me out of their lives. My younger sister two years ago - my mother in December. There's nothing I can do to fix things, it has gone too far to repair. Be glad you have that love, I had it with both grandmothers. My twin sister and I are the best of friends too... Sometimes it seems the dieting is easy when one compares it to some of the other things in life, and like you I too have lost so many friends, one reason is because I have lived in a huge apartment building for the past thirteen years... blessings to you...

OMG......your journal made me cry. My Mom is at that stage in her life where she cannot take care of herself. She is there, now, and it is so sad and heartbreaking to see her decline. My sisters and I are taking care of her and cherishing every moment that we have together for as long as the Lord wants her to be here with us. So you are very wise to appreciate what you have with your Mom right NOW in your life. God Bless you both.

btw MB I am going to see my 92 year old grandma this week. She has been asking to see me for weeks now. I am planning a visit on Friday. I miss her and she does carry so much of our family history! So the visit is over due!

Such an eloquent writer with great things to say Butterfuly! I lost my Dad 5 years ago to cancer and I tell you, I wish I would have had a similar mentality to yours growing up. It is unfortunate that we know everything as teenagers, but I cherish the good times and live my life much more differently. I live far away from my Mom and only wish she could be a bigger part of my daily life. Thank you for sharing. I'm callin' my momma right now! lol
