Day 5 - Cabbage Soup "diet"

I'm no longer on the diet. After yesterday...It was no thanks. But lessons learnt:

1. Fad diets are not for me
2. If I can do extreme I can easily follow a healthy calorie controlled diet
3. I will hate the smell of that soup until the day I die
4. I need to plan my menus ahead of time - making for better and more varied meals
5. I need to add more veg and fruit to my meals. ..just not that soup ha ha

Thinking back when I recorded and calorie counted the weekends were always a stress (not good for weight loss)....never knowing how many calories are in things others have made or you eat while you are out. So I'm going to try what some other buddies are doing and who are successfully losing....record and cut back on weekdays and don't record weekends. It's worth a try and hopefully will suit me.

That sounds like a much better plan Tracy, hope you have a lovely weekend. I have had a couple of piggy days, back to it tomorrow tho x

I think that is very sensible, don't restrict yourself to a "weird" diet, rather eat normal healthy food that satiates you. About the weekend try to not overindulge anyway, it's very easy to pack thousands of calories if you don't pay attention.

I like comment 3) best way to put you off a particular food eat nothing but that until you are sick of it. Now...I wonder if that works for chocolate ;)

I eat what I want. I count the calories religiously and make sure I don't exceed my allowance. Some days I make better use of my calories than others but if I want a Mars Bar, I have a Mars Bar. As long as I count the calories. (260 kcals for the large one)

@JockoT That works but its a bit 'one dimensional'. While its true that when it comes to losing weight, success comes down to calories-in < calories-out. You can lose weight eating mars bars and only mars bars, if you make sure to measure it, but it wouldn't be very healthy balanced diet. In some sense you can eat what you want, but you have to want to eat some essentially nutrient foods as well.

Don't get me wrong, I try to eat reasonably healthily, but I won't eat what I don't like just because it is good for me! My Mars Bar comment was more for effect than fact. I haven't had a Mars Bar in a long time. But tomorrow night I am going out with a pal for a pint. I have allowed myself 4 pints and counted the calories accordingly. And NO, there won't be a Kebab on the way home!

@JockoT, I do a similar thing with milk for coffee. I pour out 300-400ml of milk into drink bottle at the start of the day, and then this is my 'allowance' of milk for the day. It sounds a bit silly, but its easy to do and does make a difference. (I don't bother counting the coffee calories)

@gilesbathgate, that doesn't sound silly at all, I measure out a pint of milk everyday for my tea and coffee. I have had quite a naughty weekend but straight back to plan tomorrow, gaining weight is not an option, I'm with you, I try to record everything, all the little things you add all add up.

@celtwine besides a bag of crisps last night I did watch what I ate and am recording as of today and getting back into a healthy routine :)

@GilesBathgate - no it doesn't work for chocolate....I hate to admit it....but I have tried!!

@JockoT/GilesBathgate that is how I lost seven stone before - record accurately (including your milk) - I mean if you don't record it you are only kidding yourself, so you might as well be honest. And I also agree that if you really want something - have it - but if you record it you are accountable and you do seem to make adjustments more naturally over time to accommodate the odd treats. I am now hopefully back into the right frame of mind to get back to this and lose the two stone I have gained....

i swapped cows milk for unsweetened almond milk in my cups of tea (which i drink loads of) less calories, carbs, no cholesterol or saturated fat (although it is higher unsaturated fat). tastes the same in tea as skimmed milk, tastes vile in coffee though!!

@Drullae, Original almond milk tastes ok in coffee for me, The unsweetened stuff is a bit watery, I've added a few drops of liquid stevia to try and bring back that subtle sweetness of milk sugar.

@drullae & Giles I don't drink cow's milk either and for me I stick with oat milk - but can only have it in tea as it makes coffee curdle. I bought some coconut milk (brand Koko) and this is really delicious if you want to drink a glass of milk and I think would be nicer on cereal.

I use Alpro Unsweetened Almond on my cereal. I love the stuff. My wife doesn't like it but she likes the Original Coconut and Hazelnut.

I like Almond milk too - but when I first decided to go dairy free years ago...it was soooo expensive, but now I just looked and see it's the same price as all the other milk alternatives - so will be adding that to my shopping list :) My hubby doesn't like my milk either, although I made him a banana smoothy the other day with my oat milk and he didn't notice ;)

I recorded weekends until I had lost a few lbs and was closer to my goal, but now I don't record weekends anymore, some times I gain a lb or two but i don't let it phase me, I know I can sort it in the week. Also since thinking about food in the week I am more aware of what I really 'need' calorie-wise at the weekends and tend to pick healthier choices and eat smaller portions. I've also cut out all alcohol in the week (empty calories) and only drink at the weekend. Good luck!
