I grew up in a "clean your plate" household. One of my tactics to fight the habit of overeating when a large serving of food is dished to me is to offer food to others in my party or immediately ask for a to go box. Then, I cut it into portions before my first bite and scrape the remainder onto the box as soon as it arrives so that I don't stuff myself.
