haha. My mom asked me once what I wanted to be when I grew up and I said 'A musician.' She said, 'You can't do both'. :D Lyle to me is 'real' as opposed to other musicians. I saw him on a talk show once (he's a poor interview) and the interviewer asked him what genre he was. He said, 'I'm me. Why do people want to classify me as one style?' He refuses to bow to the commercial bent to put you in a box and not let you out. You can feel that he's not into being one thing or another by his music. 

Thanks for sharing the story about your mom. Sounds like she was then and is still very aware that you might always be a kid at heart. What you say about L.L. being "real" is a shared perception. I admire that in a person. I hope he never reads this, but I don't own any of his work. He seems to be a thoughtful and caring guy. I don't know... I don't know him. Once I saw a VA politician out to dinner with his family at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront Pizza Hut. A week later I saw him alone at a party at my neighbor's house. He was getting WAY too much attention. I remember that night because it was the first time I had ever eaten sushi, knew nothing about wasabi and burnt the hairs out of my nose.
