OK, I've resisted them, but I could use the scoop on protein powders/bars. Are they always kind of gritty and chalky? I was traveling and tried the vegan NoCow bars, and they were a bit much on that front. It's OK if they are, but I'd like to know. I tried a different brand yesterday (name escapes me, but it'll ring a bell when I see it on the Natural Grocers shelf) that was pretty good, but not super-high in protein. High enough for me, as I might want to increase, but I'm not super-geeked out on getting a huge amount. I'd need to look for a pea or soy protein, or something else vegan. It's mostly the what to expect on the texture front. If I have to, I can grit (so to speak) my teeth and deal with the chalkiness, if that's just par for the course

I will be interested in what your thoughts are on plant protein. I don’t do protein bars, and haven’t had a protein shake in years. What I settled on is Ascent unflavored whey protein powder. It’s not a staple but on days I think I need a protein boost add it in but not in the form of a smoothie. Mostly I mix in my yogurt or oatmeal. My plan is to try the plant based ones when I am out of what’s in the pantry.

I like to make a smoothie. Use bananas, oranges, strawberries, experiment. Takes a bit more time but these are delicious and healthy.

shirfleur -- I've been looking up some recipes on that front. Thanks for the tip on the website. honeebuns -- I'm still on the fence, but if I try it, I'll let you know

Oldmcdonald -- I'm fearless with smoothie experimentation (beets, anyone?) but I find my biggest barrier is I hate to wash the blender 😂

Writing, I fill the blender with hot, soapy water as soon as I use it & let it soak. By the time I clean up the kitchen after dinner I pretty much just have to rinse it out.

when I finish using my blender I put some hot water & dish soap in it and do a few pulses, then take it apart and rinse. Comes out sparkling clean.

https://barebells.com/our-products/ to be honest, I haven’t tried the vegan ones but their original bars are the only protein bars I’ve ever liked, so hopefully they have the same quality

I'll look those up, maili! Alas, we have no Trader Joe's here
