I hear you! An "in-person" colleague of mine, at work, accused me of having surgery... even after I told them what I was doing. If they're not "mad" at you, they don't believe you. It seems that if they don't understand that a real friend supports improvement efforts of friends... then he (she) wasn't a friend to start off with. We'll get through this!

Yeah, betrayal hurts. Thank goodness for this community!

I'm sure you did your very best in supporting this person to make positive changes, but at the end of the day he is the only one that can make the decision for no more excuses to continue with bad eating habits. It's very unfortunate that he turned his frustrations on you:(

Buddies who do that aren't betraying you, they are betraying themselves. They want to lose weight but keep doing what they've been doing, and we all know that doesn't work one bit. Until they are ready to make a change themselves, they won't change and they have to blame someone, but never blame themselves, like addicts to whatever they are addicted to.

If you use Facebook... There are lots of keto support groups! They share super tips & recipes. I've been keto since mid March, down 39#

From a "positive" social standpoint, a lot of people are afraid of losing what they have in common. It's the most insecure bond in the world, but if it's all someone knows? "What if they lose the weight? Whatever will they talk about then?" said my mother's young neighbor's then 3rd-grader, about a small "accountability group" of women who'd met weekly for years to talk about their diet efforts. Long story short, two of them did make real changes, and the group splintered. It's easy to say, never mind that one person. But losing an ally at work is hard.

Show him 1 tablespoon of ranch dressing and remind him that walking 1 mile burns fewer calories than that tablespoon of ranch. People wildly overestimate the value of exercise.

Just simply write down everything you ate today and hand it to him tomoro to look at. Do that each day so he can do what your'e doing. Mend the friendship but don't go downhill with him if he decides to.

Help him see positives, rather than the negatives. Oh, and I love the visual @evanmachusak noted about the ranch dressing. If you know he drinks a six pack, don't stick your neck out to run it in, but you can always calculate it based on one... let Your buddy do the math on their own for any additionals...

Thanks for the support all. It was fun with him at first, but like I said, he's a bit persnickety now, so I'm letting him do his own thing. As for support, LOTS of support, encouragement, confidence in here! Also, my bride has REALLY been helping me.

Good luck Cranky. It really is hard when someone has engaged you in this ...then is falling out. I really think you might step back and take an honest inventory of your friendship with him...then reproach that friendship without the Keto aspect. Just be his friend like before...without the advice and weight loss talk. Remember, You have us. He might not have anyplace he goes to list , rant or learn. He might come back to it...maybe...maybe not. Above all...negativity around YOUR WOE/Keto life is not good for you or him...My best to you on this ...it's a toughy.

Why does persnickety always strike me as the best word ever?

Keto is not required or optimal for fat loss. Maybe he should attempt a calorie restriction diet that he can sustain?

The best way to teach is by example. When he sees you shrinking he might come around, But if he doesn't ... YOU HAVE US! :)

That's tough. I know better than to talk politics around people but DIETING? You succeeding shouldn't make someone mad.

He'll come around at some point, but there's no way he can keep on with the LCHF way of eating. I love the support and inspiration I get here daily.
