Day #2 of no sweeteners (but who's counting?)...I STILL miss my Diet Coke.

Mealtimes and exercise off my routine....DH's eye surgery this AM with very early showtime.

Still feeling hungry, despite somewhat increased calories. I'm also pretty tired, so that may be distorting my feelings of hunger. Last 2 nights, had difficulty falling asleep and only slept for 4-5 hours.

Another early, early appt. with DH's doctor tomorrow morning. I don't do early mornings very well.....

Must be withdrawal. Didn't know you were such a junkie! Wishing your DH all the best!

So sorry you are having such a hard time, I can't recall if you were drinking just Diet Coke, or Diet Caffein free? If you were drinking the caffeinated stuff perhaps the caffein withdrawal is complicating things for you. I'll be blunt & say I went through hell going from Diet Coke to the Caffein free stuff. I hope all goes well with DH & his appointments

Hi there Buffy & GG. Yes, I was on the full-strength, full-caffeine Diet Coke. You might just have hit on something with respect to withdrawal. I'd been cutting (not eliminating) my consumption of the stuff for a few weeks now, having decaf iced tea instead. So, I didn't expect a caffeine withdrawal....besides.....I'm having some coffee at certain times of the day, so I'm not totally missing the caf. No headaches that one might expect from a caffeine withdrawal, but....I guess you never know. Anyway, I DO miss the flavor of DC plus everything I think I want to eat seems to have a sweetener - can't win!! On the positive side.....DH's surgery went without a problem today and he's back home resting...too early to assess exactly how his vision will be in that eye. Thanks for the well wishes!

You are def suffering withdrawal, I gave up coke about 6 years ago, and nearly went crazy. Now I cant touch the stuff and I often drank 2 full liter's a day. Stay with it, Hope all goes well with his vision. You also mind your own self.

Wishing for you a good day and for your DH a speedy recovery. What kind of eye surgery did he have?

Ohhhh Sandy...yup, I wish you lots of love...this is tough business, even just messing with how much & when you get caffeine can really mess with a girl! What I ended up having to do...was NO CAFFEINE after 1-2 in the afternoon & then the night craziness went away, (the falling asleep, but not being able to stay asleep problem), I slept better, but it sure wasn't easy...but I did it because I believed it was best in the long run. From an x-2 2-litre a day diet coke girl, who now ONLY drinks the caffeine free stuff, Occassionally...you can do this. I know...I know...the caffeine free stuff doesn't even taste the same...at all. To be honest, I had to go cold turkey & NO DIET COKE AT ALL...just water...no matter what. Guess what, eventually the caffein free stuff doesn't taste so bad! Above all...give yourself some time to adapt to the change, cause it's a big one!

Oh bless your heart..its hard to give up something you love..but at least its for only a week...So glad your DH's surgery went well..I'd say your not sleeping well is also due to the eye problem..you may not think you worry as much as you do...Good luck with the diet coke thing...:O)

Gigi...he's had laser retinal repairs, then a vitrectomy, now cataract/lens replacement on the one eye...."just" minor laser retinal repairs on the other. It's that first eye that may still need additional surgeries, as the retina may still not be quite right. But, despite this taking longer than expected, he's still thankful for having ANY sight!!!

GG....years ago, I went caffeine-free due to DH's medical issues. I just felt if HE couldn't have any, I'd do the same. And, for a couple years I did just fine....didn't miss it....didn't miss the flavor. But then.....plain ol' Diet Coke went on sale somewhere for an unbelievable price and, for some reason, the sale was only on DC, not their c/f version. I couldn't pass up the bargain....got to drinking it again and preferring the flavor. Even about a year ago, I tried to alternate between the 2 to eventually go c/f, but really didn't care for the taste of the c/f anymore. Who knows how this little experiment will turn out!

Bren, I think there's some validity to what you're saying about not sleeping due to worry. Last night (day AFTER surgery), I went to bed early, as I was falling asleep in my chair, and slept soundly until my alarm went off for that darn early dr. appt!
