Finally recovered from Weekend!

Does anyone have any tips for eating out with others? What is your go to item on a menu??

I don't have a single go to item. I look for the restaurant menu on line and do some pre planning. what i'm going to order, how i'm going to order it. then I can pick the tastes I want to indulge in and fit it into my eating strategy. Takes the hassles of trying to figure it out on the fly when one should be enjoying the company. I also cook in what I expect to drink. I don't watch the amount of cals but put more focus on the type of cals I'm going to eat.

My go to meal eating out is grilled chicken on a salad. I always get the dressing on the side and ask what is usually put on the salad and adjust from there, asking for some items to be left off. I have food allergies so it is important to know what’s it made of. Online menus help too.

If I'm eating out with others, I always looks up the menu online before we get there and decide in advance what I'm going to have. I try to keep it simple with either grilled chicken or steak, no potatoes, whatever vegetable mix they have for a side, and a house salad.

I do much like the others said. Being on Keto, I look for the cleanest fat-laden options they have. Most places have options for hamburgers so I generally will order mine all the way, sans bun. Most places will let you sub a Keto-friendly veggie or side salad for the fries. More and more people are eating this way now and the servers don’t even bat an eye at my special requests.

If I know ahead of time that I'll be going out, I also do like the others said...but sometimes I just eat lighter for my other meals to allow for a little indulgence since I very rarely go out to eat. I tell people I'm not on a diet...just a life change to healthier habits. I also tend to portion out the meal I order immediately and ask for a "to go" box for the other half so I'm not tempted to keep picking at it on my plate. We all have different tricks, some work better than others...lol ;)

If eating out enjoy it. Just make room for the meal/drink/etc in your weekly amount. Portion dinner plates if you feel it’ll be too many calories, or choose “lighter” options, if you wish. Most restaurants usually serve 2-3 times the size of regular portions. Looking up nutritional info helps also.

When eating out, I always go for hamburgers with no bun, extra mayo or grilled chicken and guacamole. Its easy to find things that you can tweak a little to fit whatever lifestyle choices you have made, you just have to take the time to look for them. Its daunting at first, but it gets easier as you go. Keep up the GREAT work!!

I don't understand the question. What is the problem when eating out with others? As far as what to eat when eating out, in a lot of restaurants (may be these are better restaurants) you can order what you want without even looking at the menu. Even at franchise type restaurants the server ought to be able to help you get what you want and avoid what you don't want. But in any event, when the food is put before you, just eat what you want that meets your goals. For me, doing LCHF, I order meat and ask what salad and steamed vegetables are available. If I can only get what's on the menu, these are typically restaurants where the menu is mass produced steaks, fish, fried fish, burgers, served with bread, fries, pasta, thick sauces, etc. I eat the meat or fish, the vegetable, salad, and skip the rest.

My strategy is to plan ahead. I save some calories from earlier in the day, maybe have one beer or a glass of wine calculated into the number, and then whatever I get, I only eat half and then take the rest home to measure the calories. Or else I get a salad with meat or fish on top and dressing on the side.

Look at the menu online before you go. Know your order before you get there. And "Just say NO" to the extras they put on the table before dinner. Bread, chips or appetizers.

Depends on the restaurant. If they serve steak, get that medium rare with a side of steamed vegetables or a garden salad. Fast food burgers, skip the fries and ditch the bun. Pizza? You got two front teeth, use them to scrape off the toppings and ditch the crust. Be creative, it's your mouth only you decide what goes there.

I try to eat before, so that I am not making decisions based on a hungry stomach, and I will then order a salad or appetizer. If that's not possible I do what DEADPOOL12345 suggests. As long as I don't overeat, I'm good, because I know I'll get back on track. I also remind myself it's about the company not the food. 😊

A small steak with veggies no carb & side salad. This works with most diets & is not embarrassing or confusing to order when with a group😉
