Did much better this morning. FBS was down to 162 (19 points lower than yesterday). Still high but going in the right direction. Weight was down again by 1 pound since yesterday or down 6 pounds from last Monday (I had a significant gain back last week). Think combination of carb macros being too high (over 5%), cutting back back on blood sugar lowering supplements (just planning on taking prescription meds till I can wean off completely) and having an intestinal bug last week sabotaged my efforts. @Nanogoat, congratulations on reversing that "gain-back"! I'm 65 and diabetic, too. I never realized any benefits from (usually expensive) BS-lowering supplements. They may work for non-diabetics but I think diabetics need more "assertive" measures.

Carbohydrate, at 5% of daily calories, is great, but it's important to "fill the gap" with *fat* instead of protein. In a low-carb and higher-than-"moderate"-protein environment, insulin (natural and/or injected) will convert that consumed protein to glucose. Then, since the cells of diabetics are "insulin-resistant," insulin will store that "unusable" (unmetabolizable) glucose to body fat. I find it easier, generally, to maintain at least 70% fat, 10-13% carbohydrate, and 17-20% protein. Best wishes and good luck in your fight!

Also, the "net carb number" is very important. I began tracking that aspect a month ago and I've done much better.

Thank you for your comment today. The supplement I have decided to stop taking was Berberine combined with cinnamon & chromium. It was effective till about a year ago when blood sugar just started soaring. That’s when my doctor convinced me to go on glimepiride. That worked for a short time with the Berberine until last summer. I convinced doctor to let me try one more time to bring BS down through diet & lifestyle and he gave me till December. In November I discovered Keto & BS dropped like a rock. A1C went from 8.3 to 7. Until last week, FBS was down to about 100 - 110. That’s why I got worried. But it seems to be dropping again so I’m just going to stay the course. I’m going to laser focus on keeping carbs under 5%, protein no higher than24% and my fats at the ridiculously high percentage of 70% or higher. So far, I have had a fantastic result with Keto. Too soon to say this is working, but I think I’m on to something.

Apple cider vinegar also helps with bs along with lots of other things. I drink 1 tbs with 1 tbs of lemon morning and afternoon on an empty stomach. Bragg's is probably the best but as long as it is organic and contains "the mother" then any brand will do. Good luck. You are doing great.😀
