Cutting almost all dairy has almost eliminated pain in my back, hips, knee and feet. It's also made it a bit easier to lose weight.

Try this: lie on your back, bend one leg and stretch it across your body while keeping your shoulders on their ground. Press slowly and gently but stretch as far as you can and hold it. Do this with both legs.

The exercise that Gz pointed out works. Do it as often as you can to keep that stretched. Helped me tremendously. Feel better soon. CICO is a great way to watch

I’m assuming you have already done your homework on the many exercises that offer sciatica relief. I would also suggest a good chiropractor if that is within your means. As far as diet goes, tighten your belt, put your fork and spoon down, reassess your food choices, eat those things that offer your body the best bang for your buck from a nutritional point of view. Skip the carb/sugar dense things that will only make your situation worse. If you haven’t been to your MD yet do so. See if he will send you for PT, neurologist, ortho. Six weeks is a long time to deal with this without further evaluation.

As others have said, control your intake. Due to my back, I was confined to my couch or bed last year for about a month and still lost 6 pounds. I couldn't stand up for more than a minute, I was able to find delivery options that fit into my my meal plan. You can do it!

Sciatic nerves hurt I have sciatic nerve as well I use a a cheap stimulator that sends electrical shocks to those areas to relieve the pain and get rid of that it helps so much I use it two to three times per week and it helps it allows you to stretch but do not overstretch so you can continue and carry on with your day

Get a GOOd Chiropracter, and as everybody else said, watch your food intake! Otherwise Keep on keepin on! :)

So like I said it helps to be able to get back to exercising moving and the stretching but not overstretching and by that I mean when you stretch without not knowing how to that can cause you over stretching and therefore causes the sciatic nerve to become active and that's when it hurts if you can't get a stimulator then you're going to have to massage that area and start stretching the very very lightly and careful

I avoided back surgery by consulting with a chiropractor who is a certified acupuncturist with a degree in Chinese medicine. She said that, after practicing only chiropractic for 10 years, she noticed that her patients' discomfort would recur regularly. She obtained training in Chinese medicine and uses both. In my case, she would not adjust my spine because I have degenerative disc and joint disease from L4 through S1, but she worked on my "points" to address the sciatic pain from the small herniated disc at L5-S1. The inflammation subsided, which happens fairly naturally. It took about a year of treatments to be completely better, but I experienced some reduction of pain within a couple of days after the first treatment.

Even if you can't exercise at all, eating at a caloric deficit will produce weight loss. It can be tempting to "medicate" with easy, high-calorie foods when you're in pain. If someone is shopping for you right now, make a list of healthy choices.

To add to what Miraculum said - I had chronic pain for 4 years - everyday, non-stop. Due to a variety of things but the most lengthy was b/c of loose SI ligaments. Eating high-calorie foods may make you feel emotionally satisfied, but it will worsen your pain in the long run. I have learned food is medicine and I have been pain free since Feb of this year. I still am working on the getting more active bit - and actually just got a recommendation for a Chinese acupuncturist and herbalist. @Mira - I am glad it worked out well for you Miraculum! Makes me excited to schedule an appointment. I have been hesitant.

Last year, my right leg sciatic nerve was flaring from my butt to my shin. I drive a stick - shift car, and I moaned with pain my entire commute to/from work. Then I started doing the stretch I described, and within 3 or 4 days, the nerve pain was relieved. I now take Mag64 as well, helps reduce restless leg.

Merix, does it help with nerve pain? If not, why did you post in this discussion?
