I am 5 foot short and have a small body frame. I was always called skinny mini my whole life and not long ago I became medically challenged and had to sit in my chair with my feet up for the last 2 and 1/2 years. I have gained a lot of weight from the steroids and other medications I was put on. I'm now twice the size that I should be. I am trying so hard to get back to my normal weight or at least close to it. I would be happy at a hundred and twenty pounds. I have cut back my calories to 800 to 1,000 calories per day because I'm so sedentary sitting in my chair. I should have taken a picture of my lunch. It was delicious. Salmon patties and zucchini. I'm trying to stay on a Keto diet, but not too successful. I get very discouraged because of my disabilities. Thoughts and prayers are welcome. OBTW I am always on Pinterest and they have wonderful recipes so that's not the problem.

how old are you?

Hey, skinnyminilinny! When you said you're "twice the size you should be," I pictured a need to lose a *whole person*. I realize that you're short and the weight really shows, but I'd recommend not overstating the task before you. It's challenging enough to have to cut the calories and carbs. I also have mobility challenges, but exercise capacity isn't as critical to weight loss as it is to other aspects of health. Best wishes on your continuing health journey!

Transplantee here. I spent 10 years not doing much of anything due to health issues. During that time, I gained 120 lbs. In addition, one of the anti-rejection meds that I have to take every day, for the rest of the life of the kidney, is a steroid. It makes me so frickin' hungry... from around 9am when I have to take it, until about 5pm when it has moved through my system. You are absolutely in the right place. Good luck on your weight loss journey and remember to be patient. It took 2.5 years to put it on. It's not going to come off in a month. Find a diet that works for you and you can live with for a while.

It sounds like you may have a situation that you could use professional help with if you have not already pursued that avenue. For instance, the help of a nutritionist and maybe even physical therapist and/or a trainer. People that you can comfortably talk with about your medical conditions and limitations who can help design an appropriate eating plan and exercise program for. Best of luck to you. I’m sure you have everyone’s support.

Thank you Kenna Morton. I've been seeing my PCP on a regular basis for the last couple years. I wanted to try the HCG diet however she didn't feel it was a good choice for me because of the steroids. She said throwing my money away there. Also it's limited to 500 calories a day. We talked about Keto and that was a good choice. I told her if I stay under 800 calories I can lose, but if I go over I'm either at a standstill or I gain. I'm just now able to start walking again, so I was told to try 5 minutes here and there throughout the day. My back was fractured & a ruptured disc in a fall a few weeks ago. Now even 5 minutes is very painful at this point. Every doctor I have is very aware of my medical conditions. I've had five doctors helping me through the last 2 and 1/2 years. I almost died several times. I try and eat very dense nutritional Foods and no junk, no sugar, very low carb, lots of veggies and 3 to 4 oz of protein per meal. Thank you so much for your concern. I appreciate all the thoughts from everybody.

could someone let me know how to upload pictures of foods or progress?

I'm currently doing 800 calories a day - 100+ grams of protein (I eat a lot of chicken breast!) low fat - under 50 grams and low carb 20 net carbs, no to very little dairy. I'm taller then you (5' 4") and I've lost 17 pounds since July 1st. All the protein keeps me satisfied but I do miss butter and cheese! I've started to add in a little nofat cheese but not much because it's not that good. haha. Good luck on your journey!

@skinniminilinny, to upload pictures of foods or progress in the full computer app, click the "MY FATSECRET" tab a the top of the page, then click "My Journal" in the box on the right. Click "Record a Journal Entry" at the top of the "My Journal" page. Click "Click to upload an image" (a link at the bottom of the "Record a Journal Entry" page. Use the cropping arrows to adjust the image that you want to appear in the final post. [You can upload as many images as you like, but realize that they may take up a lot of space in the final post.] You can opt to write a description in the white box, or just upload your chosen image(s). I like to see a description, especially of food pics, because I can't always tell what I'm looking at.

Hang tough with the keto diet. Dietdoctor.com has some good inspiring stories and lots of information to keep you encouraged. Dr. Ken Berry, Dr. Jason Fung and Dr. Berg are other great sources of encouragement.

I see all the nice comments everybody has made and many of you understand the dilemma with all the medication. I was watching YouTube this morning and I listened to dr. Eric Berg. He explains the keto diet and he did really well. It's good because I haven't fully understood it since I heard of it and I've just been winging it. I have a fractured vertebrae that collapsed 80% so I will be seeing a surgeon this week and they're going to work on my back. I can't move very well. Maybe that's a good thing. I won't be able to get the spoon up to my mouth. LOL. Anyway thank you all for your kind words.

Dr. Berg advises seven cups of low-carb vegetables per day. My understanding is that he comes to keto through vegetarianism. Dr. Berry (who moved from morbid obesity to paleo to keto to carnivore himself and is really fit now) advocates for low-carb veggies on keto, but always maintaining the limit of 20g carbs (total) per day. He is now totally carnivore, himself, for months. He relates his findings and experiences in his YouTube videos. The Virta Health program, DietDoctor.com, and Fung's IDM Program all emphasize low-carb veggies.

Miraculum, thank you for all of this wonderful info on dr. Berg and dr. Berry. I have watched dr. Berg on YouTube a few times and I did not know his history. I am really working at this Keto way of eating. I've been doing okay for the last 3 days even though I have eaten a little bit too many carbs (30 gr today) I just keep on trying to eat the right Foods. I appreciate you writing to me. I only have 96 pounds to go to reach my desired goal weight. That is almost half of my size. I have three autoimmune diseases that I've dealt with for the last 38 years. The steroids have been used to keep the inflammation down. Thank you for your encouragement.

Sounds like you are doing well. Plan your day in advance. That will help. Keep your diet simple in the beginning. Decide what protein to eat and have a little bit of carb food to go with it. Gradually you will get the hang of it.
