I think it sounds just fine as long as it is part of your plan. I do the same thing myself.

I take a day off regularly, not every week, if just kind of depends on what I have going on in my life. But when I do I no longer use it as a time to binge but just eat what I really want in a reasonable portion. Like a burger and small French fry, I used to have a double cheeseburger and large fry-that was the old me. I feel like regardless if it’s a cheat day you shouldn’t use it as excuse to overeat, just eat what you enjoy and you won’t gain weight. Scale might be up for a day or 2 from all the sodium in the food you eat but in the long run you won’t gain. Enjoy!!!!! 😀

Since you've lost almost 40 lbs., it appears this is working for you. When I was in weight loss mode (maintenance now), I didn't have cheat days. I tried to make meals I truly enjoyed everyday. The only real cheat days were major holidays like Thanksgiving. I did go on vacation a few times and loosened up restrictions for a few days.

Agree with Sherry: I don't do cheat days. I cheated enough when I was fat. There are already built-in cheat days on the calendar (they're called holidays). Also, why a whole day? What if you limited it to a cheat meal? Then you won't trash a whole week's worth of work. Let us know how it goes!

I don't really do cheat days either (I dislike that term cuz it is so negative 😖) But on planned days, I relax the calorie restriction by just a few hundred and still try to steer clear of empty calories. I have to admit that every once in a blue moon, a maple bar slips it's way into my mouth (those darn things are very sneaky!) 😂

Relaxed calorie days on a schedule can help reset your body from becoming stagnant in weight loss. Your body stops thinking it’s not going to be fed and stops possible times of no weight loss. Also a formal schedule of relaxed calorie days helps you physiologically stay on your diet. Win win ( my daughter and her ex husband are professional body competitors)

I don't do cheat days, no need. I have always built desserts, treats, empty calorie snacks into my weight loss efforts. I portion these things out and limit it to that for the day. That seems to work for me. I don't believe in depriving myself. I'm going to have days when I'm totally off track, I'm human. That's life. It all balances out when I get back on track and keep steady with what I know works. If I deprive myself the next day that leaves me hungry, discouraged and reminded of the poor choice I made the day before. I rather look at all the days I made healthier choices and keep going.

Thank you all for your valuable contributions...everything you mentioned is really true..every person is unique and what suits one person may not suit another.. Although the diet plan my doctor prescribed contains all kinds of foods and sweets twice a day, I prefer to enjoy an open day eating more chocolate, which I like a lot..which is really not a cheat day. Because with the permission of the doctor.. I prefer to call it "Chocolate Day".
