Like a difficult houseguest, I thought this pound would NEVER leave! LOL!

It's been a tough couple months with a hip problem. Diagnoses are hazy...osteoarthritis, tendinitis, IT band, piriformis muscle, etc. I've had the best success with rest, stretching, and a slow return to more normal exercise. Just got back to being able to walk my 3.1 miles comfortably....MOST of the time, anyway.

But the major reason this pound took so long has to do with too many legal, but calorically dense, snacks throughout the day. If I can be mindful of those, I seem to do better. Of course, those snacks are nuts....not peanuts this time, but just about any other kind. A good food, but too many gets me into trouble. I know I should be measuring out a portion and not having any more, but it's just so easy to grab a handful here.....and there.....and then again.....and maybe later too.

Maintenance is continuing to be a learning process.

Revisiting my goal weight is still very much in sight; but more like October now, rather than summer's end. It is what it is.

oh - I also have struggled with IT band and piriformis muscle issues...two things helped me: 1) Google "The Melt Method" and learn about using a soft foam roller and 2) Google "Rolfer" in your area. Rolfers work on the fascia under the skin in a different way than massage therapists. These two things helped tremedously!

Hi Gerri...thanks for stopping by. I agree that a serving of nuts is SO small!!! When I look at this issue calmly, I know that I can have an appropriate serving from time to time when I'm in real Maintenance mode, but NOT when I'm trying to lose. So I just have to postpone eating them for a few weeks (sigh). Easier said than done, though!

HCB, thanks for the info....I'll look them up. The PT guy talked about the IT band, but after hearing him talk about the typical symptoms, I wasn't convinced. By the next appointment, he was talking tendinitis, which fits the symptoms much better. Right now I'm in charge of my own rehab, but I can always opt for more PT if things don't continue to improve. Good luck with your annual checkup!

Am so sorry I missed this yesterday - hate that you have this problem. Sounds so painful. Bet your puppies hated it too. BTW - nice to see you at 152. Best of luck determining goal weight.

You're right Heather....body joints....who knew they were really that important???!!! I can tell I'm on the road to improvement though when I can walk a good distance and not even think of my left hip, as opposed to feeling each and every step. Even though I'm improving, I don't think I'm quite ready to follow your lead into iron boots! LOL!!

Hi Buffy! My puppies were NOT happy with their shortened walks at a slower pace. After a good 4 months, we're close to being back to normal, so I'm VERY thankful for that! And I guess they are too!
