I'm happy with my weight loss. I was concerned this might be the week I didn't see the scale move and I was preparing myself. I know that day will come and I need to be ready to stick to my new lifestyle no matter what.

GoodMan and I were talking about something someone said on another journal post (sorry, I don't remember who said it). They were talking about the terminology we use. How "losing" weight sounds unintentional (we don't "lose" something on purpose). They suggested to say we "released" the weight - meaning we did it purposefully. GoodMan took exception with that term too. He thinks the term "release" brings up a picture of gently "letting go". GoodMan suggested something more like "got rid of", or "extinguished", or "burned off", even "dumped". His suggestion is to have a mindset of the hard work required and the intentionality of its removal. I like the way that man thinks (usually)...but I can't imagine telling someone I "dumped 1 pound this week!" LOL!!!

On other topics ~

No sign of mice for 3 nights...perhaps the Great Mouse War of '14 is over?

GoodMan and I are heading in to Grand Rapids for lunch with DIL#6 and Granddaughter#16, and then I have an appointment at the dermatologist to have a basal cell carcinoma removed. Afterward we will head back to DS#6's house for dinner and then back home again.

The weather here in Michigan is cool and rainy. I don't expect to get much done around our house on Saturday. If the weather cooperates we will need to do some yard work at the Reed City house on Sunday.

Oh, and the guy we were counting on to do the rest of the renovations on the log cabin house in Big Rapids has told us his regular job is picking up so he won't have time to do our work. Now we'll need to find another person willing, able, honest, and well-priced. I'm so bummed he can no longer do the work - but very happy for his family that he found steady work.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Look at your chart! You are doing great. Many people's charts look like roller coasters with the ups and downs. Yours is mostly downward, so you are doing better than most people. Don't worry about something that may never happen. And if it does, so what? You just keep going.

Yeah, I don't know; 'releasing' a pound sounds like something you would do when nobody is within earshot, and 'dumping' a pound is something you do from a sitting or squatting position. I kind of like the word "shed," defined as "to lose as part of a natural process <shed the deciduous teeth, but "get rid of" is good too.

DK ~ LOL!! That's what I thought. I'll have to tell GoodMan I have someone who agrees with me. ;) I like "shed"...but somehow it conjures visions of a dirty old run-down building...or perhaps a snake with its skin...I'd like to find a term more ...feminine maybe?

A pound is a pound is a pound, and it all adds up. *fist bump*

Hey - how did you win the Mice War? It is cool and rainy in Minnesota and we have seen a few back inside...and we have two cats who chase them down until we can grab them and put them outside! Would be nice for them to stay outside the house...

HCB - The mouse war may not be over yet, but it looks like we may be winning. First I cleaned everywhere...simple to do since DS#6 and family had just moved out and I needed to clean. Then I put ALL food away. Even bread and cereal is in plastic totes. Then, nightly traps...like 10 of them. I make sure there are no dirty dishes. That way they are forced to use the bait. I even stopped buying bananas because they ate through the peel when they had no other food source. We don't have cats because I'm allergic. Hopefully we've discouraged them enough.

Yup - the traps will be our next step! Good luck!

I remember when we had a problem with mice out in Virginia. We put this sticky stuff down near bait, kind of like fly paper for mice. I don't know how humane it is, but it wasn't as traumatic as the guillotine. It worked.

Thanks, Hipaagrammy. Geese flow south for the winter and mice like to hole up in my apartment. Have a great weekend as well.

DK - Sticky traps were waaaay too traumatic...they were still alive!!! How did you "dispose" of them? At least the guillotine is fast (and painless - at least for me).

You're doing very well, keep up the great job :)

Laughing at all the comments!! On both topics. You guys are all great.. I also use the old fashioned cheap traps, quick no screaming critters stuck in the glue. Not allergic to cuts, cats are cool and interesting, really don't ever want to clean another litter box. Have to get some this week with the cold weather moving in, they will start invading soon.

Nice drop! I had a problem with mice every time work was done in the fields around my house. Tried the different traps, the fast trap was the best compared to the others. The mice would chew on electrical cords and telephone cords since I didn't leave any food stuffs around. I could hear them chewing through the walls while I was trying to go to sleep. One hole must not have been good enough, they had to make more. Makes my skin crawl. Cats really helped. Didn't see as many snakes around with the cats there either.

Peanut butter is good bait. Just added mouse traps to my shopping list. 40 degrees this am, those tiny critters will be hunting a warm place.

Yes, mine prefer peanut butter. I feel a lot better knowing we are not alone in this mouse invasion. I never had anything like this in our old house! Kattay went and brought up snakes! Now THAT would make me want to move. I worked at an eye doctors office before I retired and a patient called and wanted to ask one of the doctors what exterminator he used to get rid of his bats...I said, "oh-oh, you're having problems with bats?" And she replied, "Oh no, we have snakes...they used to just be in the basement and I just stopped going down there. But now they're coming upstairs."...I just about fainted hearing her story. She was very calm...I would have had to go to a hotel and put the house up for sale!
