Way to go!! I'm glad the zigzag thing is working out for you. Years ago I had some success with something called the Rotation Diet, where you ate 1200 calories for 3 days a week, then did two days at 1500 and 1800. The idea was the same; keep your metabolism guessing.
I hope you're not going to be so busy in Alaska you'll have difficulty sticking to your plan. If you're working too many hours to get by on a reduced calories, try to limit yourself to your RDI. At least you shouldn't gain anything that way.
