Paddleboarding like mofo the last couple months!! This has got to be my new favorite activity!! It's an amazing core workout that can burn 800+ calories per hour for men (500+/hr for women). The most awesome part is finishing out the workout with a surf session! Talk about rewarding hard work! I do a 2-mi paddle that takes me about 90 mins and then spend the next hour or so surfing. By the time I get to the surf session, my core is on fire and ready to shred waves. My arms, back, and core are in the best shape they've been for years and I feel more energetic and athletic overall. My strength and conditioning have improved dramatically. That improvement has translated to all other areas of activity too: skating, running, softball, disc golf, etc.

Besides the physical benefits, the benefits to the mind and soul are significant as well. There's something calming and balancing about being out on the ocean. Maybe it's that you feel so small and insignificant among such a vast ocean, or that you feel oddly connected to cycle of life around you. In either case, I always take some time to meditate and let the ocean "speak" to me. It's amazing the insights I gain and lessons I learn, when I turn off my mind and let the ocean guide me. Maybe that's a little hippie-ish to some of you, but true healthiness occurs when there is balance between body, mind and soul. I find all that when I paddle out.
