because you are not eating enough and your body recognizes this. As a result your body will slow your metabolism down to preserve its self. You need to increase your intake of the right kinds of calories i.e. complex carbs, proteins, and essential fats. I do not know what kind of diet and exercise plan you are on but I do know 600kcal a day is not healthy and can cause real problems with your health and weight.

Exactly what Dcline said. You gotta eat to lose weight. Check what your RDI should be to maintain and take 200-500 calories off of that if your wanting to lose. Try to keep your protein close to .6-1 g per pound of your body weight too as your body doesn't like being in the low bodyfat range and will try to balance if it can.

Ja, I ate 1600 yesterday and dropped a pound. I've noticed when I go below 1000 my body fights me and holds or adds weight. Why don't they teach us this stuff when we're younger? Lol

Karate and Dcline do not know about the 5:2 diet that you are doing, and in any event one day on 600 calories isn't going to damage your metabolism. Part of the success of the 5:2 is that it doesn't have you eat low calories for an extended period of time. Having experimented with it for a time I have to say I also occasionally had some unimpressive results after the "fasting" day. Don't worry about it, it could just be a little water retention or perhaps you are approaching your cycle?

You have done well, and as you close in on your goal weight, you may need more nutrition. I increased my RDI two weeks ago and lost. Go figure.

sounds like your not eating enough so your body goes into "survival" mode and starts hoard fat reserves for later bc it thinks your not eating enough. Not sure if this is a real thing but its my guess..

It's not the fasting day and the low calories, you need a more consistent approach. "Starvation Mode" doesn't affect people that aren't actually starving, ignore chunky divas that think skipping a few meals will destroy their metabolism, more likely they're just trying to justify eating more than they should. lol

Thank you Trackin. I am eating keto ratios and working to lower insulin. My metabolism is not taking a crap because my body is able to access plenty of energy from my 'food storage' (fat) due to lowered insulin. I'm thinking my gain is due to my change in training. I'm working to do more weight training and that can build muscle (which we know weighs more than fat). I'm also about to start my cycle which probably explains my plateau this week.

I love you Phil. 'Starvation Mode' is a lie. You have to be at like 4% body fat before you even need to worry about something like that. And believe me I'm no where close to that. In fact, fasting will actually raise your metabolism rather than kill it.

Love that you have done your research, Kpp! That is THE most awesome thing you can do for yourself, even more so than exercise! 😀

Don't get me wrong... exercise is great for health & building muscle, just not so much for weight loss..

Kpp, you and Phil are exactly right. I've been doing extensive research on insulin resistance and fasting, as well as metabolism, and "starvation mode" IS a nasty myth.

Redgirl1974 up there, is spot on. The body will adapt over about a 3 day period. A fast will shock the system as well as more dense calories. Take note of of the GI tract responses to diet. It will tell you alot.

Thanks Notelaine, I thought it was humorous, and of course it was meant tongue-in-cheek, I'm sorry for offending you. :) Starvation Mode is a fantasy, one of my pet peeves. Of course I get just as ornery about people that claim calories are the only thing that matters, so hey, at least I'm balanced. lol

That's what I call a balanced diet, Phil! 😂
