You have named my guilty secret, as I do the same thing. I think it has helped me to keep on going with faith that I really will continue to lose, if sometimes just eventually, when I am back on track. a 1200 calorie binge yesterday resulted in a 2 and a half pound gain this morning! So much for 3500 calories making up a one pound gain! But I was back to it today.

I would love to meet the person who came up with that 3500 calories equals 1 pound formula. How come, like you said, just going over your diet by 1000+ calories equals a 2+ lb gain for most of us. I think the real formula is plus 1000 calories 2+ lbs, minus 3500 calories either a weight plateau or a 1/4 loss.GRRRRRRRR

You can't rely on day to day weight fluctuations these don't matter much because of fluid retention and other factors the key is to keep on the program because it is like an EKG chart there are ups and downs minor variations but look at the overall longterm slope/direction of your weight chart and keep it flat or down. Success is not being discouraged by a few pound variation shrugging it off and keep on track. Other explanation is as you lose well the body loses it oddly I've noticed that same thing plateaus or event slight gains after a large drop in weight but this is part of weight loss it is as iregular the body doesn't lose weight in a linear chart but more of a zig zag down pattern and when you add a few extra calories during welght loss the body my theory tries to gain weight and trick your mind to stop dieting. This could also be explained mathematically look at your caloric deficits add them up from the start of your diet divide it by 3500 this should be how much you should have lost if your ahead of this amount your body weight could be compensating upwards.

3500 cal equals to 1lb of stored fat. You are gaining and losing or better to say measuring weight, which includes stored glycogen, muscles, bone density, blood (heavier people have more), internal organs plus water depending on your level of hydration. So it cannot be just explained by one formula. Keep going, use scale for reference but do not get too upset when you see ups and downs. If it is time to buy a new pair of pants because old ones are loose, you are moving in the right direction. The only time when you should be upset is when you consistently overeat and this is a real gain. One day does not matter much. Some people even do it on purpose to reset their metabolism. But do not do it for a week in a row ;)

I do the same thing. I didn't weigh in for weeks once, because I refused to log a gain.

I'm at about my halfway mark. I've noticed that the better you feel. The harder you have to come up with creative ways to workout and create healthy food recipes. I appreciate your comments that you leave along your journey. It really helps to keep meotivated.
