Trying to understand why my weight goes up whenever I do an intense work out? Am I gaining muscle and really a pound of muscle overnight. Is that possible? Can someone explain?

I have the same problem. I think there is some water retention as well as muscle build.

it' is water ...that's next to imposible to gain a pund of muscle a day..i recommend to weight your self every week in the morning on a empty stomach

Know I do not think it is. I believe it is instead that when you do the work out you have stretched and have been hydrating the muscles so they in a sense are heaver. Instead weigh in on here once a week or every other week. you can check daily but remember with water and work out you can flux up or down a lb or two each day so try not to let it get you stressed out.

Be happy because muscle is way sexier than fat... and it just weighs more, but your getting smaller... the scale plays with our heads too much... take your inches for sure if your doing a lot of weights or hard work outs. Hang in there.

Ohhh, if only it were a pound of muscle overnight. However, it's just water.

Muscle will store more muscle to help speed repair of tissue during a workout. It's a good thing. If you're making sure you're eating carbs after the workout as well, the insulin response will carry the carbs into the muscle as glycogen to re-feed them. Insulin also helps with the scavenging of amino acids from your blood into the muscle for repair. It's a good thing when you give it a reason to do it's job.

By the way. 18 pounds a year for beginning bodybuilders is considered exceptional muscle gain, so everyone is right, it's not muscle. You're also in a calorie deficit so that makes it even more unlikely. The weight is proof that your body is maintaining what it has though, so good job. :)

its just water. your muscles retain water after intense workouts. continue to drink lots of water.
